Zombie Awareness Month: Day 11 - RE: Your Brains

I've been aware of this song for ages but I know not many people have. I've spent all day in a shopping mall with yugioh players so I feel like a zombie myself so forgive my small post. The song is silly and catchy,

Heya Tom, it's Bob from the office down the hall
It's good to see you buddy, how've you been?
Things have been OK for me except that I'm a zombie now
I really wish you'd let us in
I think I speak for all of us when I say I understand
Why you folks might hesitate to submit to our demand
But here's an FYI: you're all gonna die screaming

All we want to do is eat your brains
We're not unreasonable, I mean, no one's gonna eat your eyes
All we want to do is eat your brains
We're at an impasse here, maybe we should compromise:
If you open up the doors
We'll all come inside and eat your brains

I don't want to nitpick, Tom, but is this really your plan?
Spend your whole life locked inside a mall?
Maybe that's OK for now but someday you'll be out of food and guns
And you'll have to make the call
I'm not surprised to see you haven't thought it through enough
You never had the head for all that bigger picture stuff
But Tom, that's what I do, and I plan on eating you slowly

All we want to do is eat your brains
We're not unreasonable, I mean, no one's gonna eat your eyes
All we want to do is eat your brains
We're at an impasse here, maybe we should compromise:
If you open up the doors
We'll all come inside and eat your brains

I'd like to help you Tom, in any way I can
I sure appreciate the way you're working with me
I'm not a monster Tom, well, technically I am
I guess I am

I've got another meeting Tom, maybe we could wrap it up
I know we'll get to common ground somehow
Meanwhile I'll report back to my colleagues who were chewing on the doors
I guess we'll table this for now
I'm glad to see you take constructive criticism well
Thank you for your time I know we're all busy as hell
And we'll put this thing to bed
When I bash your head open

All we want to do is eat your brains
We're not unreasonable, I mean, no one's gonna eat your eyes
All we want to do is eat your brains
We're at an impasse here, maybe we should compromise:
If you open up the doors
We'll all come inside and eat your brains

Zombie Awareness Month: Day 10 : In The Flesh Season 2

I loved season one so much of this, it was good, well acted and powerful. I was so upset at the ending but I won't give that away. BBC aren't known for their breaking shows.. not like other ones like C4 who did the Big Brother zombie show DEAD SET.

[2013 Season 1]

I was hoping there would be more of In The Flesh but the way they left it, It could have just ended and done so nicely. Even though it was three eps long it was well paces and wonderfully done, nothing felt rushed or shoe horned in.

Season 2 has been out since May 4th and I am just really slow where I don't watch alot of TV or listen to the radio.

A second, extended series of the show, comprising six one-hour episodes began airing on 4 May 2014 on BBC Three. It will begin broadcasting in the USA on 10 May 2014. It will take place in Roarton, where a fragile peace has been reached after the shocking events of Series One. While Kieren is hoping to get on with his second life, new, explosive characters could throw those plans into disarray. Battle lines are drawn and all will be judged.

From what I saw from the trailer it's alot like an X-men type thing THEM vs US pick a side or move out the way. But I look forward to catching up with it and enjoying it.

If you've not seen season 1 I did a review.

Due to the fact I never watch TV this one slipped me by for awhile until a work mate pointed it out so I started to watch and.. it's good.
In The Flesh is a BBC three part drama in which the dead came back to life and all hell broke lose.. after the events of the zombie take over alot of zombies were rounded up and 'cured' thanks to injections which give their brains the thing that being dead took away and now they walk amongst us but with all memories of their past lives in tact.
These people are called PDS 'Partally Dead Syndrome' and they try and fit back into our world. Our story is about a boy who had killed himself and there are alot of unresolved issues in the family due to how he died.
Where he lives sadly is a very god loving, low tolerance northern community that hate 'rotters' and who lead the HVF [Human Volunteer Force] which includes our main guys sister. It shows the northern lot in a very 'nice' light but as someone from the south.. oh well.
Anyway it's about zombies who came back, got cured and have to deal with 'living' their lives again and dealing with the guilt of what they have done and also dealing with the true livings feelings towards them.
A new, fresh look on the overly done to ahem.. death zombie story.
Three parts which doesn't feel rushed as you see him coming home, the struggles he gets from a conflicted family, a community who hate him and also meeting people along the way. It's powerful and compelling and  a damn good watch.
I can't say a bad thing about it other then the fuck ugly guy called 'Dean'...

Zombie Awareness Month: Day 7 - Dr Dales Zombie Guide

11.32 PM... thought I'd fuck up and miss today... here have an old post.... I kinda cheated but not.

Kid's fucking love zombies and in 2010 it was pretty much 'year of the zombie' where everything got a zombie add on or a zombie version or something like that..  And what with the TV show created from the comic 'The Walking Dead' zombies were right up there with large foot faced looking vampires that all the teenagers would gush over.

I have a habit of buying anything remotely horror related no matter how bad it sounds to me if it's a good cheap price [Here's looking at you 'Skinned Deep' lure me into your web of poor plots and terrible production values by shaking that £1.50 sticker at me! never again CEX, never again..] So yes, while in HMV clutching more poor movie choices to my chest I spot this gem for £3 and decide, zombies... £3? well it's been a good few years since I picked up anything written that didn't have men in tights saving the world so I went for it.

So yes.. where as the 'Zombie Survival Guide' is funny cus you don't know if the guy was trolling us or he really, really believed in everything he said.. but this book is a total goof and he's loving the fact he's just taking the piss. The writing style is casual and easy to get on with  even if it does suffer block text walls in some places.

I also find that as amusing as his comments are and I utterly love all the Zombie game references [Dead Rising, L4D, Resident Evil etc] as well as just normal game references he does tend to ramble and go off on one, like if you were in a room with him it would start off like having a good conversation before he stands there like a crazy homeless person and yells things at you.

Like I said, it's funny, well written and is laced with horror popular culture references which I admit had me chuckling to myself on the bus and staff room causing many confused looks. It's also by a fellow brit and thus references to places/things in the UK hit home allot more then the good old 'Zombie Survival Guide' so massive enjoyment for me on that level.

I do feel he might have been trying too hard to be funny in some sections such as the need to add a section on 'Lorraine Kelly' of all people but hey, I don't have a novel what do I know right?

The art work is very poor but also adds allot to the amusement of the book and no need for good art in a book that's basically rambling about things and trying to make you laugh.

All in all Dr Dale's snarky and harmlessly funny book is a good read, I found myself skipping some sections but most the time I'd have a great big grin on my face!

Zombie Awareness Month: Day 3 - Zombie Cocktail + Shots

Zombie Cocktail + Shots

A nice fun one for you all now. I intend to make one of these myself one day and more then likely ruin it and it'll taste like crap. But here's how we make zombie cocktails and shots!

Zombie Cocktail

A history into the Zombie Cocktail

Legend has it that Donn Beach originally concocted the Zombie to help a hung-over customer get through a business meeting.[2] He returned several days later to complain that he had been turned into a zombie for his entire trip. Its smooth, fruity taste works to conceal its extremely high alcoholic content. Don the Beachcomber restaurants limit their customers to two Zombies apiece.[3]
The Zombie was originally served heated, as outlined by CIE "Catering Industry Employee" who is more commonly known today as the I.B.A. HOT ZOMBIE "Juice of 1 lime, unsweetened pineapple juice, bitters, 1 ounce heavily bodied rum, 2 ounces of Gold Label rum, 1 ounce of White Label rum, 1 ounce of apricot-flavored brandy, 1 ounce of papaya juice"[4]
According to the original recipe, the Zombie cocktail included three different kinds of rum, lime juice, falernum, Angostura bitters, Pernod, grenadine, and “Don’s Mix,” a combination of cinnamon syrup and grapefruit juice.[5]
Beach was very cautious with the recipes of his original cocktails. His instructions for his bartenders contained coded references to ingredients, the contents of which were only known to him. Beach's original recipes for the Zombie and other Tiki drink have been published in Sippin' Safari by Jeff "Beachbum" Berry. Berry researched the origins of many Tiki cocktails, interviewing bartenders from Don the Beachcomber's and other original Tiki places and digging up other original sources. Mostly notably, Sippin' Safari details Beach's development of the Zombie with three different recipes dating from 1934 to 1956.
Due to the popularity of the cocktail during the Tiki craze and the fact that Beach both kept his recipe secret and occasionally altered it, today there are many variations of the Zombie made at many restaurants and bars, some showing few similarities to the original cocktail.

Zombie Awareness Month: Day 2 - My Top Zombie Movies

I'm a pretty big fan of zombie movies, least creative ones or older ones [I'm not an expert I just like what I like] and looking along my DVD collection I decided to pick out the very best ones that I own and really suggest to anyone.

[2008]
[British]

I know the zombies are more 'infected' then actual zombies but I bet alot of people will have this on their top zombie movie list. It's amazing, it's gory, scary and well done. There isn't anything bad I can say about this movie really.... other then the shitty 28 weeks later which was a big crappy pile of shitty shit.

Animal activists invade a laboratory with the intention of releasing chimpanzees that are undergoing experimentation, infected by a virus -a virus that causes rage. The naive activists ignore the pleas of a scientist to keep the cages locked, with disastrous results. Twenty-eight days later, our protagonist, Jim, wakes up from a coma, alone, in an abandoned hospital. He begins to seek out anyone else to find London is deserted, apparently without a living soul. After finding a church, which had become inhabited by zombie like humans intent on his demise, he runs for his life. Selena and Mark rescue him from the horde and bring him up to date on the mass carnage and horror as all of London tore itself apart. This is a tale of survival and ultimately, heroics, with nice subtext about mankind's savage nature.

Acting: 5/5
Plot: 5/5
Gore: 5/5
Pacing: 5/5
Scares: 4/5
Overall Enjoyment: 5/5

[2009]
[Norwegian]

I know this is a silly and a total gore fest but I enjoyed it, it's a nice balance of retarded and enjoyable. I love the fun side of it and try to ignore how it's trying to be different with it's Nazi zombies...

Several friends take to the mountains and shack-up in the wilderness of back-of-beyond to enjoy a little R & R together, their peace is soon interrupted by a mysterious old man, warning them of a local curse that during the German occupation of the local area that these Nazi invaders were brutal and harsh in their methods of control. Telling of the legend of the villager's revolt that drove them up into the cold, dark mountains where they perished, that is until rumour of their return in the form of zombies, evil Nazi zombies

Acting: 3/5

Plot: 3/5
Gore: 4/5
Pacing: 5/5
Scares: 3/5
Overall Enjoyment: 4/5

[2004]
[USA]

One of my favourite horror movies of all time. I have seen both and the remake is my preferred one, I like the story, the sound track is freaking amazing, Johnny Cash, Disturbed and Richard Cheese? this is awesome. One of the first horror movies I ever took a massive shine to, awesome stuff.

A nurse, a policeman, a young married couple, a salesman, and other survivors of a worldwide plague that is producing aggressive, flesh-eating zombies, take refuge in a mega Midwestern shopping mall.

Acting: 4/5

Plot: 3/5
Gore: 5/5
Pacing: 5/5
Scares: 4/5
Overall Enjoyment: 5/5

[2008]
[USA]

This is such a guilty pleasure of mine but hot women, Robert Englund ... and pure silliness. It's a fun movie with enough gore and humour to make it bearable. I know many people might hate it but damn it's a funny silly flick.
In the not too distant future a secret government re-animation chemo-virus gets released into conservative Sartre, Nebraska and lands in an underground strip club. As the virus begins to spread, turning the strippers into "Super Zombie Strippers" the girls struggle with whether or not to conform to the new "fad" even if it means there's no turning back.

Acting: 2/5

Plot: 2/5
Gore: 3/5
Pacing: 3/5
Scares: 2/5
Overall Enjoyment: 4/5

[2007]
[Spanish]

Another one you could debate is 'zombie' or not as it has alot of religious undertones so it could be zombie, infected or a possession or something. First Spanish movie I have seen and it's one of the best horror movies I've seen. I could gush about this one forever.

A television reporter and cameraman follow emergency workers into a dark apartment building and are quickly locked inside with something terrifying.

Acting: 5/5

Plot: 3/5
Gore: 4/5
Pacing: 4/5
Scares: 4/5
Overall Enjoyment: 4.5/5

[2009]
[British]

I love my Brit horrors and this is the second one on my top zombie movie list. Yes it beats SHAUN OF THE DEAD for me, I think this one is even better. It was corny and funny enough cringe worthy gore to last you a life time.

A group of men head to a remote village to help one of their friends get over his divorce; when they get there, though, they discover that all the women have been infected with a virus that makes them man-hating cannibals.

Acting: 3/5

Plot: 2/5
Gore: 3/5
Pacing: 3/5
Scares: 0/5
Overall Enjoyment: 4/5

Zombie Awareness Month - Day 1

Because no nerd or even normal person now hasn't heard of zombies, or seen enough zombie media to not know about them or how to deal with them so lets see this more as a celebration to all things undead and zombie like [Or infected if you want to be mega assholes about it]

Zombies have been big for years now and I think it's mostly due to the sheer explosion of things like The Walking Dead, Left 4 Dead and having zombie add ons to popular games such as COD and RED DEAD REDEMPTION - UNDEAD NIGHTMARE.

People who like zombies have always been into them I think, like before it was cool to wear or carry your 'This is my zombie killing ____' around with you proudly to show your all hip and with the kids. Liking zombies has become so mainstream now that you can get a zombie movie about everything where as back in the day [I'm not that fucking old I know] it used to be Zombies were the lame B movie type gorefest but now they are often the nasty things that lurk while having to endure with human struggle and all that crap.

Some of us just like shooting zombies and don't care for the person's inner struggle. Thank god for stuff like L4D, House Of The Dead and other such pewpew bangbang games. Saying that I'm not a total meathead I do enjoy the whole 'It's humans who are the worst' but sometimes I want someone to get eaten by a zombie not watch a whole ep of The Walking Dead just to see a cameo by a zombie doing nothing but minding it's own business.

I think my issue with how big zombies have gotten is no one bothers to make a good zombie movie any more. I am tired of seeing _____ VS zombies, clown zombies, zombie strippers, zombie sheep or any other 'hurhur' spin on zombies.

That's why I am bigging up the good zombie things.

The Walking Dead Game by Telltale

This game is one of the best games I have ever played and this is coming from an FPS meathead who likes to explode stuff. The plot is heavy, hard hitting, soft, sweet and tragic and the fact you can pick things and your story goes with what you did? it's amazing but also makes you realise how bad of a person you are.

I've never been so drawn into a game before and really feel things. I cried like a bitch when I saw the ending. Tears of manliness flowed like waterfalls.

Some countries even use it to teach etihics in school.

Norwegian teacher Tobias Staaby is getting a fair bit of good press today for playing Telltale's The Walking Dead with his students at Nordahl Grieg Upper Secondary School in Bergen, Norway.

Staaby incorporates the game into his religious studies curriculum to help spur discussion about morality and ethical choices.

"The Walking Dead presents some dilemmas [the students] would not have thought of otherwise," Staaby told a reporter from Norwegian media outlet NRK. "That makes their answers to a greater extent their own."

You can watch the full report from NRK in the video above, though it's probably wise to enable subtitles if you don't speak Norwegian.

Though The Walking Dead is likely the grisliest game ever used in a classroom, is hardly the first -- sandbox games like Kerbal Space Program and Minecraft have been used as teaching tools for years

Zombie Awareness Month

Well kids it's the month of May which means not just 'May the 4th be with you' or 'free comic bookday' or even 'MCM London Expo' no, even with all those amazingly nerdy events in one month it is also the month in which we must realise the implications of the arising zombie apocalypse. Zombie awareness month!

So in today's fun blog post I will be listing a bunch of useful zombie related items and hey you might even learn something that will save your life!

Dr Dale's Zombie Dictionary: The A-Z Guide to Staying Alive

If you think the whole zombie thing is a bunch of rubbish then this book is a great funny read but also dead [haha!] informative! it shows you how you can use anything to your advantage in a full blown zombie attack.. even how to make use of Lorraine Kelly!

The Zombie Survival Guide

I always loved this book because I couldn't tell if it was trying to be so serious it was funny.,.. or it was funny because it's so serious.. either way it's a fantastic and well written book and the best thing to study for the future attacks.!

Left 4 Dead

Always a good way to find out who of your friends will be useful to have around and who your better off using as fodder to the undead masses... but on the flip side they will also see what a massive cock you really are.. Get some team training in with this game!

Dawn Of The Dead

Amazing soundtrack, overall great movie.. watch it, love it, avoid the kinds of people in the movie and also a handy reminder that people fucking suck in end of the world situations and... mall's aren't great places to hide.

Zombie Shopping Mall Experience

Get trained! in an awesome taster of what it could be like when the world goes to shit.

That's all from me today but hope you enjoyed my little post. Keep your eyes open and ears to the ground for the end of the world as we know it~
