Ghost Stories - Review

I went to London awhile ago and I saw this was playing but sadly no one wanted to see it at the time but I had been meaning to. So me and my friend got together and went to see it. Tickets cost £21 each which is bloody good and they even upgraded us to closer seats for free since they weren't sold out which I thought was amazing service, polite and friendly people.

Anyway enough of falling over how awesome and welcoming the staff at this place were on to the show. Now at the end of the show it says 'please keep the secrets of Ghost Stories' so I won't be going into detail as this is something that I'd never want to ruin for people.

The Show

BEING SCARED HAS NEVER BEEN SO MUCH FUN

Seen by over 350,000 people worldwide, Ghost Stories is truly an extraordinary theatrical experience. Written and directed by The League of Gentlemen's master of the macabre, Jeremy Dyson, and Andy Nyman, co-creator and director of Derren Brown's television and stage shows, Ghost Stories mixes the very best of theatre with the buzz of a thrill-ride, delivering something truly unique. With some new moments of shock, this show will make you laugh and scream in equal measure.
Ghost Stories is a stage fright like no other - 80 rollercoaster minutes of thrilling, chilling laughs that you won’t want to miss... Are you brave enough to book for the scariest fun you’ll ever have in a theatre?

The whole place was decorated and you had no idea why it looked the way it did until the end.

The basic plot was there was a man who was an expert on folklore and he talks to you about ghosts, do you believe in them? and have you had an experience with them? at first it feels like your at a uni lecture with this guy, he's bitter and somewhat angry sounding.

He shows you some creepy pictures and clips, alot of God bashing which I am fine with but I could see it being too much for some people. He recalls accounts of three stories he was told by people who came to him for help.

The first being a night watchman who was on a shift at an old mall I think it was? reminded me alot of MIRRORS. Things go bump in the night.

Second story was a young man whose car breaks down in the middle of no where.

The third is a man and women move into a house and are expecting a child, things go wrong.

You find out at the end how everything links together, so I won't say any more about the plot but I know those three stories might seem very cliche horror and why would you want to see live action urban legends or something but it's much better then I can make it sound.

I have never seen anything so effing scary ever. The tension and fear that grips you and how things leap out of you. I screamed manly screams the whole way through and almost ended up on my friends lap at a few points. You know when your so scared and you have to have your hands over your eyes? you want to look but the fingers your trying to peek though tremble so much.

The whole time I was in there watching it I had sweaty palms and could feel my heart racing. There wasn't very obvious scares and then ones you can see and it still made you jump.

The acting was fantastic, the second character the guy in the broken down car? you could feel his fear and the tone in his voice, breaking and trembling.

Such passionate acting, the best I've ever seen. Better then alot of people I have seen in horror movies.

The pacing was good, I never felt bored, I also didn't know what to expect. The ending scenes really keep you on the edge and I remember digging my nails into the palm of my hands at certain bits.

I suggest you see this show, it's fantastic and I would see it again in a heart beat.

Ibitsu

I love urban legends and all sorts of folk lore from around the world. I personally love British and Japanese of these two things, the latter always seems dark and twisted full of unhappy souls and revenge seeking creatures. Again, something I love to read about.

I found this manga but bumbling around online as I often find things, by accident and out of sheer boredom. The manga is two volumes long with a story to break the main one up between. So it's not a long one to finish and it's not ongoing.

[2009]

A boy went to take his trash out late one night, and found a strange, creepy, lolita woman sitting amongst the garbage bags. She asked if he had a little sister, and he answered her, hurrying afterwards back to his apartment. When he looked out the window, she was gone. Who is the strange woman, and why does she give him such a bad feeling?

The urban legend in the manga goes as follows.

You see a girl dressed in dirty gothic lolita clothing, if you walk past her she will ask you a question 'Do you have a little sister?' if you reply 'No I don't' She will become your sister. If you say 'I do' she'll try and kill your sister and take her place. The only way to avoid dying horridly is to not reply.

It was slow to start with as girl in lolita clothes gets more and more creepy and stalker like as the manga goes on, odd things happening as she breaks into his house to clean, and watch him sleep and other things all the while he's trying to figure out what is wrong with this girl.

He has a little sister who comes face to face with the creepy girl and things get worse for them both as soon the boy starts to realise more and more that this strange girl who is stalking him might be more then that as he hears of urban legends floating around and rumours of this 'Strange Lolita' cause him to look online for more answers, when he finds them they aren't good.

While trying to find the answers on how to get the girl to stop his own sister is being chased down and punished more by the strange girl. Soon he finds himself in an old mental hospital as all the secrets and abusive past the girl had come to light and he tries to make things right to get the bitter soul to leave him and his sister alone.

But as with most tales and folklore from Japan, it's a bitter twisted world.

The story that fits between one half and the other is really creepy. Again based on a legend that if you go into this old building as a couple and write your names down you will be happy forever. The building was where a famous doll marker lived and suffered losing his wife which drove him nuts.

Too many creepy fucking dolls man. Was very good read though.

Like I said it's a slow start and seems to drag it's feet as is typical with alot of J horror but when it gets going you feel a little on edge and feel yourself tense as the truth comes about and everything slots together in a twisted way.

Zombie Awareness Month - Day 1

Because no nerd or even normal person now hasn't heard of zombies, or seen enough zombie media to not know about them or how to deal with them so lets see this more as a celebration to all things undead and zombie like [Or infected if you want to be mega assholes about it]

Zombies have been big for years now and I think it's mostly due to the sheer explosion of things like The Walking Dead, Left 4 Dead and having zombie add ons to popular games such as COD and RED DEAD REDEMPTION - UNDEAD NIGHTMARE.

People who like zombies have always been into them I think, like before it was cool to wear or carry your 'This is my zombie killing ____' around with you proudly to show your all hip and with the kids. Liking zombies has become so mainstream now that you can get a zombie movie about everything where as back in the day [I'm not that fucking old I know] it used to be Zombies were the lame B movie type gorefest but now they are often the nasty things that lurk while having to endure with human struggle and all that crap.

Some of us just like shooting zombies and don't care for the person's inner struggle. Thank god for stuff like L4D, House Of The Dead and other such pewpew bangbang games. Saying that I'm not a total meathead I do enjoy the whole 'It's humans who are the worst' but sometimes I want someone to get eaten by a zombie not watch a whole ep of The Walking Dead just to see a cameo by a zombie doing nothing but minding it's own business.

I think my issue with how big zombies have gotten is no one bothers to make a good zombie movie any more. I am tired of seeing _____ VS zombies, clown zombies, zombie strippers, zombie sheep or any other 'hurhur' spin on zombies.

That's why I am bigging up the good zombie things.

The Walking Dead Game by Telltale

This game is one of the best games I have ever played and this is coming from an FPS meathead who likes to explode stuff. The plot is heavy, hard hitting, soft, sweet and tragic and the fact you can pick things and your story goes with what you did? it's amazing but also makes you realise how bad of a person you are.

I've never been so drawn into a game before and really feel things. I cried like a bitch when I saw the ending. Tears of manliness flowed like waterfalls.

Some countries even use it to teach etihics in school.

Norwegian teacher Tobias Staaby is getting a fair bit of good press today for playing Telltale's The Walking Dead with his students at Nordahl Grieg Upper Secondary School in Bergen, Norway.

Staaby incorporates the game into his religious studies curriculum to help spur discussion about morality and ethical choices.

"The Walking Dead presents some dilemmas [the students] would not have thought of otherwise," Staaby told a reporter from Norwegian media outlet NRK. "That makes their answers to a greater extent their own."

You can watch the full report from NRK in the video above, though it's probably wise to enable subtitles if you don't speak Norwegian.

Though The Walking Dead is likely the grisliest game ever used in a classroom, is hardly the first -- sandbox games like Kerbal Space Program and Minecraft have been used as teaching tools for years

In The Flesh

Due to the fact I never watch TV this one slipped me by for awhile until a work mate pointed it out so I started to watch and.. it's good.
In The Flesh is a BBC three part drama in which the dead came back to life and all hell broke lose.. after the events of the zombie take over alot of zombies were rounded up and 'cured' thanks to injections which give their brains the thing that being dead took away and now they walk amongst us but with all memories of their past lives in tact.
These people are called PDS 'Partally Dead Syndrome' and they try and fit back into our world. Our story is about a boy who had killed himself and there are alot of unresolved issues in the family due to how he died.
Where he lives sadly is a very god loving, low tolerance northern community that hate 'rotters' and who lead the HVF [Human Volunteer Force] which includes our main guys sister. It shows the northern lot in a very 'nice' light but as someone from the south.. oh well.
Anyway it's about zombies who came back, got cured and have to deal with 'living' their lives again and dealing with the guilt of what they have done and also dealing with the true livings feelings towards them.
A new, fresh look on the overly done to ahem.. death zombie story.
Three parts which doesn't feel rushed as you see him coming home, the struggles he gets from a conflicted family, a community who hate him and also meeting people along the way. It's powerful and compelling and  a damn good watch.
I can't say a bad thing about it other then the fuck ugly guy called 'Dean'...

These two stick in my mind as some freaking amazing recent zombie things. I suggest them to anyone.

Highschool Of The Dead - The Drinking Game

My last drinking game seemed to go down well and I even had some people telling me how utterly drunk they got, so I guess I will make another one. Now HIGHSCHOOL OF THE DEAD is an anime but you can watch it in English or Japanese with English subs. I highly suggest English dub as if you play game on hard mode you will be so fucking drunk you won't be able to make half of the subs out.

Now even if your not a massive fan of anime this is such a gory, retarded but overall enjoyable anime that I do suggest it. Also I won't be calling people by their names as I can't remember/care and not everyone playing this game will remember either..

So are we ready to play?

EASY MODE: Sips of your chosen booze
MEDIUM MODE: Shots or 1/2 shots of a weaker booze
HARD MODE: Shots for each thing

HARD MODE WARNING: I've watched one ep to refresh myself for making this game and if your a lightweight such as myself you will get drunk in one episode. Trust me kids, this is for the harder drinkers.

REMEMBER TO DRINK RESPONSIBLY AND DON'T PUKE UP OR PISS IN YOUR FRIENDS FLOWER POTS WHILE DRUNK.

Take a sip or a shot for every one of the following..

Every time you see a pantie shot
Every time you see cleavage
Every time someone gets their boob grabbed
Every time a boob jiggles
Every time the nurses boobs make a BOOOOING sound
Every time a girl cries
Every time the pink haired girl insults the fat kid
Every time a living person is killed
DANGER DUB MODE: Every time someone says 'FUCK' or 'FUCKING'
Every time someone gets naked or undressed
Every time creepy teacher does something creepy [You'll know]
Every time someone almost dies but doesn't

I know this doesn't sound very horror... but it has allot of death, blood and zombies.. trust me.

WHERE CAN I WATCH - DUBBED

Just look at what you have to look forward to..

Every time you see cleavage

Every time a boob jiggles

Have fun kids!

CUBE - Big ol box of doooom

Ok sorry it's been so long since I got my ass in gear and did anything but I have been dealing with alot of personal issues and also parent to a new baby heggie so been looking after her. FYI she's called DEXTER [holla to ma boy Michael C. Hall]

Anyway CUBE has been kicking around since 1997 and has a prequel and a sequel. It's one of my fav movies in the horror genre, it's so simple but complex at the same time and does gore and mind fucking in a beautiful combination that doesn't make it cheesy, boring or over the top.

[1997]

The plot is basically this. Some unlucky assholes wake up in a giant killer Rubik cube. Every room is a different colour and I really think that this was the best and most cheap set to ever make. Just have two rooms side by side and change their colour from time to time. I bet that was a god send and also the costume design department must have been laughing.

With it just being a group of people moving from room to room it doesn't sound that great of a movie does it? you'd be wrong. As too many zombie related things do [I love you Walking Dead but I'm looking right at you with stink eye] one of the biggest issues of being locked in funky death trap box is the assholes you are stuck there with.

Characters are well rounded but being late 90's you can't help but get the vibe of 'token black guy' I think all three CUBE movies has angry hairless black guy. Not that they are type casting in the slightest right? anyway the group is well rounded and I didn't hate anyone.

They all wake up and freak out about where they are and what's going on. All your typical WHO DONE THIS? and turning on each other for answers but give it credit, one of the first horrorish movies to fit into that formula. Yes I do have my cock in CUBES ass but that doesn't mean I can't see it's flaws.

It's stupidly elaborate for what it is and makes no real sense why the government would go to such huge troubles to make a giant future like cube of death to sentence people. But hey it's fun or something?

Anyway...

Dealing with one another and accusations flying around like crazy they have to move around this huge cube of complex numbers, codes and traps. Think if Hell raiser cube had babies with SAW. That kind of smash together of ideas. They have to figure out what rooms are trapped and which ones aren't.

The traps range from acid in the face, cheese wire attacks, spies from walls.. all very much boobie trapped tomb vibe I spose but the tension and pacing is great. I loved the whole feel of the movie. Not once did it drag and for a movie that couldn't go anywhere really the character development is neat.

So trapped rooms that kill, maim and murder, some seriusly unhinged people and then throw someone who is very mentally handicapped into the mix. TA DA you have the cube.

It doesn't feel like it's from 1997 it feels like it's older but in a good way, feels dirty and gritty and a good watch if your more into your psychology thriller type horrors with a dash of face melty gore.

Dead Space : Comic

I know there are a few comics but this one is simply 'Dead Space' this first came out in issue format in 2008 and man if you wanted those bad boys you were looking at ALOT of money, as a big fan of the franchise but not so good at the games I had a look for them and about £50 an issue or something retarted.

But sadly for sellers/collecters and great for us cheap assholes it came out in trade back form just recently and retails for about £13.99 which is more then I pay for an average trade back but still better then £50 an issue... still.. fuck man.

So the trade back is nice and shiny and in it you get some nifty bios on the main people in the book.

Bram being a total bro and not believing in that major crazy ass Unitology and is full of 'I take no ones bullshit' so yeah he's my fav from the get go. Also I noticed when they are talking about one of the heads of Unitology they accidentally [or 'accidently'] called it Scientology hurhur I hope it was an added mistake I really do.

Anyway the story is pretty much... Unitology has been around awhile, it's before Issac's time. They find their first 'real' marker not one that they have been making. Causes allot of crazy shit like break downs, not sleeping, visions, all the good stuff you find in the novels.

So yeah Unitology and its people are fucking nuts... they beat the normal minded people.. mass suicides marker turns people into Necromorphs a load of shit goes down and the marker is moved to the Ishmara where poor ol Issac who is very very ignored and forgotten in anything else goes and has to sort some shit out.

Very basic plot, you don't find out much more of the back story but it's still enjoyable.

The art is a little odd for comics, I like mine to be more.. X-men then something different [change is scary and so are new things] but I started to like all the water colours and how they are different with the moods and actions of the comics. Sometimes the people will look ugly as ass though but it's a neat art style.

Another thing about the comic is whenever people bang on about 'Altman have mercy' or 'Altman be praised' if you have read the novel it kinda tugs at you, that poor fucker tried to bring them down, tried to stop it and warn everyone about the crazy fuckers and evil rocks and instead the bastards made him their 'leader' and killed him.

I think the comics would make more sense if you have read the novels but not important to enjoy.

Should buy it for your Dead Space collection though, for sure.

Blooded

Another Brit movie for you all to learn about! Now one thing I will get out of the way now is my personal feelings about the subject of this movie. It's about the banning of fox hunting here in the UK and how it did start alot of fights and there were as many pro hunting people as anti hunting and the movie is about how it got banned but people still did it and the government didn't care to enforce the law and hunting parties carried on, some animal rights extremists take matters into their own hands.

I grew up in the country where fox hunts were a local and often thing and my personal stand on it is I'm against it, it's disgusting. Hunting in such a way is vile, hunting for food I'm less against even as a non meat eater I understand the food chain and some places people need to hunt to live. But to have an animal chased around and then mauled to death by some posh assholes dogs nopenopenopenope. So as an anti hunt person watching pro hunting people treated in the same way they do the Fox's so it was a rather conflicted feeling during this movie, getting to see what these people deserve but also feeling bad for the well written characters.

I am not pro extremist I know this is just a movie and ANY extremist movements one way or another is bad. Now I've gotten the 'it's all about me' part of this movie out of the way time for the review.

So the movie is about the youngest hunt lord in the UK and his other friends who go to Scotland to get out of the heat of the media where so many anti hunt people really hope this man gets a smack to put it lightly. Some animal extremists follow them and make a movie on what they did to these people and it goes online the movie is a re inaction of what happened to these people as they are interviewed through out.

Think of FOURTH KIND but the footage doesn't run along side each other it's more like a survivors story while actors act it out. So each character has two actors a real one who is in the interview and a fake one who acts them in the 'movie' it's abit strange but also pretty neat.

The cast is Lucas the hunt master, his best bum buddy Charlie, brother, brothers black American girlfriend and his ex girlfriend he lusts for and is planning to ask to marry him.

So they are all up in Scotland having a gay ol' time and shooting deer and what not when Liv the ex girlfriend tells Lucas she is already engaged, he has a massive huff and storms out the cottage and vanishes.

Soon they all wake up in their underwear in the middle of the hills all alone, the fear and panic grip them as they have no idea what is going on. All their reactions are different as they stumble around and freeze their bits off.

So after stumbling around like morons for a few moments soon they get shot at by the animal rights extremists and run for their lives getting to feel how so many animals have felt in the past, scared, confused and loud noises going off around them as they run in any direction. No one really gets hurt and they are simply forced to read out a speech on camera by the masked men before being left alone to go back to the cottage.

Still no sign of Lucas so the two manly men in big sweaters decide to go and find him and they see him sticking to his guns and refusing to read this out as it goes against anything he stands for, he is an icon for the hunt world and he knows he has to stand for what he believes in even if he is tortured and his life is on the line.

He doesn't budge standing strong to his convictions. But he soon folds when they get hold of the women he loves..

The plot is very basic and no one dies and for a movie called 'Blooded' there is a very noticeable lack of blood. The movie is good and gripping if you have this kind of anti hunt or pro hunt view and get sucked into it. Like I said above, I was conflicted. The movie takes a little to get going but I really enjoyed the style it was filmed in.

I thought there was some very well shot scenes and lovely scenery but a very unscary horror movie this one was. It was enjoyable but as a horror it lacked alot. No scares pretty much no blood but it was still a good movie, really felt like a documentary which I think was what it was going for so good work.

Good movie, bad horror movie.

The Walking Dead Game - The End

Ok this is going to be a post about the ending of the game and stuff so look away now.

SPOILERS

The  Walking Dead

So by now Kenny has lost his wife and son who I'll be honest... not the best characters anyway also Lilly fucked off with the RV in my version because I was too nice to leave her to die like I should have. I guess she was pissed that me and Kenny jumped at the chance to kill that shitty old fucker she called Dad.

Man that was a good moment. Anyway so you make it into town with the help of angry motherly character Christa and short stack well needed comedy guy Omid.

Oh and Charles the homeless guy but sadly he lasts all of five minutes as he dies trying to save Clem who Ben,t he massive useless fucking douchebag that is Ben just runs and leaves her to get noshed on.

So anyway the ending is Lee gets bit, I choose to show everyone my bite and they all helped as much as they could, oh and I also gave my Lee the Rick treatment and had his arm removed.. I honestly thought 'hey they save someone in the comic and the show like that!' but no.. didn't work.

As a game The Walking Dead doesn't have alot of game play to offer, alot of the time I found myself so sucked into watching the story and sometimes clicking buttons to pick what Lee says that when it comes to SMASH THE FUCKING A BUTTON TO WIN I forget it's NOT a movie and it is a game that requires I do something from time to time. If you like a game full of action, this isn't for you but if you prefer something that's heavy on story then this is amazing.

So as the ending draws you have a choice when Ben gets knocked back and Lee has to pull him up or let him drop.. I could not fucking let him drop fast enough,I always thought he was a shit and annoying buthole.. he got Carly shot in the face, left Clem to get killed, also was at fault for Kenny losing his wife and child.. and when Kenny was like 'Do what you need to' I was more then 'RIGHT AWAY BESTEST BEST FRIEND' it was not a hard choice for me.

This kind of game shows you the kind of person you are in a crises.. and I am a heartless asshole. I also tried to save Shaun not Duck at the start, pfft.. kids.

So in the end Ben gets dropped, Kenny vanishes trying to save Christa and you are left alone to find Clem who you do save.

And oh god.. when your alone with her and turning into a zombie regardless of cutting your arm off... I have never sobbed so much at a game, it was intense and gripping, you have been with Lee and Clem all the way and everything I did in the game was for the sake of Clem, I always tried to do right by her and the bond they had was.. excuse me for sounding like a wussy baby.. really beautiful and touching.

The whole scene and the dialogue between the two characters feels so heart felt and gripping that it honestly broke me heart watching it. I picked for Clem to shoot Lee to stop from seeing him turn. Oh god, so many manly tears. My partner also had a cry so it wasn't just me being a massive wussy..

It was made even sadder by the fact there was some sad chick song at the end which just added to it.. and then the ending seeing Clem all alone... baaaaw.

Clem seeing her folks as zombies then having to shoot or see the one person she had left in the world turn into a zombie... really pulled at the heart strings. I'm a fan of the comic and the show but this game has raised the plot and story bar SO FUCKING HIGH that the other two media forms need to pull their acts together.

Also the ending where Clem see's two people in the distance? totes going to be the start of the next game I recon.

So cast break down..

Lee
Is a pretty awesome guy and a great character to play as, not to mention he has hella smooth voice. Such a great stand in father for Clem.

Clem
I honestly thought as she was a kid she would be the most annoying person in the game but she's this adorable, lovely and brave little girl.

Doug
Some fat guy you don't pick cus it's him or a hot chick with a gun.

Duck
Ok this is the most annoying person.. though he's not too bad and it's sad what happens to him.. Also don't feel too bad, he dies and comes back as Sid from Toy Story..

Glenn
Oh hey that guy from the show and comic who's pretty much 'Hi this is my cameo... bye!'

Hershal
Pretty much the same as Glenn and well.. a meany doodoo head.

Kenny
Redneck soon to be bestest best friend forever. I wish my ending with him had been a littler gayer better then it had been, but I guess punching him in the train wasn't the right way to cement the best of friendships.. I liked him all the way through tho.

Larry
That massive cunthole that no one hesitated to kill off. I hated him but I think that was the point.

Lilly
Cuntholes angry always PMSing daughter who could benefit from a good dicking.

Shaun
Yeah.. that guy

Carly
I liked her, she was a good strong non massive vagina rage monster female. I was hoping to bonk her but fucking Ben got her face blown off.

Kat
No impression on her what so ever other then her accent would change about a hundred times and sometimes altogether vanish.

Marc
Who the? where did he com- oh doesn't matter he's food now anyway.

Christa
I thought she was another rage monster women when we first meet her but she's a pretty kick ass female char in the end and I totally wanted her and Omid to have Clem.

Ben
What a useless bellend.. if ever a character I wanted to get rid of.. was so useless and lanky and stupid and useless and... yeah I had no moments hesitance to drop that fucker into the all you can eat zombie buffet.

Molly
I didn't like her or any of the Vernon's lot.. found them boring and she was just....eh....

Omid
I liked Omid and wish there had been more of him as he was a nice light hearted dash of comedy here and there but he didn't seem goofy or shoe horned in.

The Stranger
Who I'm convinced was just William Defoe in video game form..

Also sorry to chuck about a thousand images at you but I don't think it's just a coincidence that the achievements look alike..

L4D vs Walking Dead achievements..

The games final marks from me
