Dangan Ronpa - The Animation

Look look I'm reviewing something loooook!

Starting to become a rare ass thing that. But anyway I recently started to watch an anime called Dangan Ronpa also known by it's long ass full name Dangan Ronpa: Academy of Hope and High School Students of Despair. It's a murder mystery horror anime which reminds me of Battle Royal crossed with Pheonix Wright games.

It's based on games that are pretty much like a much faster paced PW deal but the anime's plot is pretty much this. A random group of kids go to a high school and wake up in a class room alone with a note telling them that they have to meet for the opening ceremony.

Once they get there they are with a bunch of odd people [all the cast are pretty bloody colourful and in my opinion pretty awesome minus the main guy who is boring mc blankface] and a fucking bear comes out and announces they are all trapped in this highschool forever.

Which pisses people off as you can understand.. I hated school for those five years let alone the prospect of being trapped with these asshats for the rest of my life and possibly never being allowed to see actual sunlight again... Buuut Monobear/Monokuma which seems to be the mastermind behind it all says that one person can graduate and leave this place... everyone has to kill someone else and if they get away with the perfect murder they are free to go.

That's why it rings so close to Battle Royal with me.

So anyway this bear appears and tells everyone whats going on. How the only way to be free is to kill someone. Everyone gets their own pass cards and later in the anime you find out only boys can go into the boys changing rooms and same with girls. Each time someone is killed there is a trial in which people go against each other then take a vote. If the killer gets away with It everyone else dies and the killer goes free but if the killer is found then he is killed after group vote.

The court room style scenes are a lot like a PW game and the executions at the end are pretty awesomely animated. I can't give screen caps as I don't want to give too much away.. which is why this review is looking very.. pictureless ha.

Each time it looks like no one is going to kill each other Monobear add's something like the first time they all get a DVD of a message from friends/family/loved ones and then it looks like something horrible has happened to them and the only way they can get out and save them is by playing the game and killing people off..

So far I am really enjoying the anime and it's only 9 episodes long at the moment as it's all new and shiny~ The gore is pretty good and a lot of the time you never see whats coming or who did it. It's a very clever anime that doesn't have too much of the annoying things that make most animes abit much to handle.

The cast also amuses me for the most part, some great ones.

Aoi Asahina

Only real 'fan service' and even then the anime doesn't have the dreaded 'jiggle pyshics' that put a lot of people off of the genre. She's abit of a dumb shit but a sweet enough character.

Celestia Ludenberg

Gothic Lolita girl who is full of bullshit and lies who has gambled a lot and won a lot of money in her time. She annoys me a little where she comes across as a smug butthole from the start.

Chihiro Fujisaki

A fairly adorable character I like this one, they are kinda cute and sweet if not abit meek. Very smart and good with computers.

Touko Fukawa

Crazy mother fucker, she's scatty, hates the sight of blood, totally obsessed with one of the guys to the point of stalking, very low self esteem and self confidence. You'll never guess her secret~

Yasuhiro Hagakure

I love this guy, he's so laid back, bit on the stupid side and has pyschis gifts that are about 30% accurate. Least he's honest about it. I like him, he's goofy and that hair.. that hair is amazing man.

Kiyotaka Ishimaru

Hardass do gooder who never breaks rules and has a very high moral compass. Very over the top and over expressive in everything he says and does. Also a liked character of mine.

Junko Enoshima

Catty fashion girl from another Japanese fashion scene. Sarcastic and has balls. Also, that skirt... what.

Kyouko Kirigiri

Typical silent and smart girl who seems to know everything. I don't dislike her I just find her to be one of the annoying cliche's.

Sayaka Maizono

Could not give two craps about this bitch. She's a singer in a band and knows the main guy, that's pretty much the extent of her character. Bit of a cry baby fuckhat too.

Monobear

He's pretty awesome, sadistic, cruel and a little goofy at times.

Makoto Naegi

Main guy who no one knows why he's there as he's as special as a turd. He's Mr Joe average boring pants that people can relate too I spose? Boring and care very little for him but you know he's safe as he's in 'main guy' safety status.

Mondo Oowada

Watch it, we got a badass over here. Violent, touch guy potty mouth biker with a bitching do. I love this guy loads. He's pretty ace. I also love the voice actor and I picked it out a mile away.

Sakura Oogami

Street fighter is all that came to my mind with her. I think it's funny she's a she but who am I to judge.. she's a nice girl and one of the better charters once you get your head around her..

Byakuya Togami

I find him to be a boring overly smug asshole. Again not really an enjoyd member of the cast for me. Needs a punch,

Hifumi Yamada

Some fat art guy who is obsessed with the gothic Lolita.. pretty much it.

Leon Kuwata

Would go gay for, yep, I don't know why but damn he's a pretty boy. Cocky and a baseball player I think he was only added in so teenagers could make him gay with other men.

So overall on the so far of this anime..

Plot: 4/5
Scares: 0/5
Gore: 4/5
Overall enjoyment: 4.5/5

House Of The Dead, Left 4 Dead, DEAD SPACE and good ol' John

Well I would like to say I have been hella busy with cool things but really I've been sat in a dark room watching horror movies and feeling rather sorry for myself. True story. But today I will bring you a lovely selection of goodies from the last week or so.
-- House Of The Dead--

First off I went to a new arcade in London called 'The Heart Of Gaming' which charges to get into the venue but every game is free and you can play anything as much as you like. Has some dance machines, loads of fighting games annnnnd House Of The Dead! light guns and all.
Now a few years back you could find a House Of The Dead 3 in pretty much any arcade and very rare cases a 4 or a 2... but never have I seen an arcade that has House 1. The arcade box isn't an official or original one but it's still a chance to play an awesome arcade game in well.. an arcade setting.
Guns work really well in this arcade you can tell they care for their things where as big arcades tend to think duck taping the fuck out of the house 3 shot guns will magically keep them alive for another thousand years.
House arcade machines seem to get harder and harder to find, I used to work as machine maintenance in a local arcade for some time and the House 3 machine was my baby, every lunch break I'd grab food and stuff it into my mouth between cut scenes playing this mother but since my time at that place the House 3 and 4 has gone.
Maybe due to being a family arcade and there is no place with all the slot machines.. grabber toys and silly 3D reality simulators for such a fine beast like the best known horror arcade game...
Anyway my point IS this arcade still has a House and with working guns that you don't have to shake the ever loving crap out of to reload... I talked to the owner and he seems to have big plans on getting the other ones into his place. So he's aiming to get the other houses and as far as I know on my travels and being a massive whore for House that would be the only place to have them!
Very excited and will more then likely spend my life there playing all of them... maybe at once if I grow tentacles from all the energy drinks and misery I'm fuelled with these days ha.
If you wanna check the place out you can find them on facebook HEART OF GAMING ARCADE
--Left 4 Dead 3?--

I'm sure everyone and their dog has seen this by now but holy fucking crap man! L4D3? I mean I love L4D everyone who reads this blog should know how gay I am for it [very gay] but out of all the games that they could have done a third for [How long have all you half life fans been waiting? haha suck it] I mean I think PORTAL 2 was the newest one? bit rusty on my valve kids.

And before P2 there was l4d2.. does this imply that L4D was their most popular franchise? cus shit, have you not seen how crazy... dedicated to hats the TF2 fandom are? long as you chuck new maps and silly head clothing their way they are happy for life I spose..

But how can you build more on L4D? I mean in the second one you get new chars.. they even cross over worlds with the first lot which is awesome and I have spent so much time and money on the bloody dlc's and whatever else that comes my way.

Weapons was a fun add in number two where you could coat your screen in zombie blood and not be able o see while your mate yells at you from the place on the sofa next to you or across a headset...

All the added special infected made the game abit.... eh... like move two steps.. JOCKEY BALLS IN YOUR FACE... walk down this road COVERED IN SPITTER PUKE... well now that's over.. FUCKING HELL WITCHES CAN WALK NOW?..... oh well that's kinda ne- KARMA CHARGED INTO DEATH.

That's an average five minute scenario when playing the second game... they could have just taken some of the old ones out for the new ones? too many special infected.. I hope int he third they will make all new ones or limit them. Also the charters in two.. Black girl, Uncle Phill, Redneck asshat and my future husband Nick [aka that douchebag Steve from the remake of Dawn Of The Dead] are.. lacking compared to the ones from L4D.

I'm thinking maybe since kids love their zombies and zombies are fucking huge money makers this is why the third l4d is coming out before the third... ANYTHING from valve. I look forward to it greatly but also fully prepared for heartbreak and disappointment.

---Dead Space--
I'm a massive fag and got a DS tat

Hurt like a mother fucker and those lines up my neck? caused my left arm to go funny. The words under it are marker symbols for 'REBIRTH' they also look like UNKNOWN's from pokemon, Double cool points.

--John--

So I got bored few weeks ago and made a facebook page for John Kramer the guy who is Jigsaw in SAW. It's going... well.. I have three friends.. feel free to add and enjoy.

Much love

Cosplay for the Recently Deceased

Well I am now back on track with this little blog so back to my cosplays of the month and this month is defo a personal favourite of mine. Any UK convention goer is bound to have seen these two around alot as they are some of the best cosplayers from this fandom I have ever seen.

So enough of me rambling and falling over myself to get to the point... Here we go!

Name: Hannah
Age: 23
Where are you from?: Swindon, Wiltshire
How long have you been cosplaying?: I've been cosplaying since 2007, but I'd only really started to take it seriously since 2012!

Why did you decide to cosplay this character?: As soon as I got pretty deep into the Beetlejuice fandom, I knew I had to cosplay Lydia in some form. Her character just spoke to me and I just felt really connected to her. I could sympathise with how she felt like the outcast and a freak in her own family; loving the bizarre and the supernatural only for it to turn around and bite her on the behind, in a sense. Initially I'd wanted to perfect a cartoon!Lydia cosplay, until I found a black straw hat whilst out shopping one day. Then after the first make-up test run I realised my face wasn't so badly suited for Winona and decided to give it a spin.

It certainly helped that at that point me and Amy had met through Tumblr and had roleplaying accounts for Betelgeuse and Lydia and just-- decided to cosplay our 'muses'. We knew we just had to pursue it!

Tell us about your costume: For Lydia I currently have the 'moving day' outfit which she wears as the Deetzs' furniture arrives/when she first spots the Maitlands, and I also have the wedding dress (which Amy did an AMAZING job creating). I love both of the outfits to death and can't honestly pick which one is my favourite, though of course the 'hat' outfit is much easier to travel with (and IN!) as the dress restricts movement quite a bit. But… nothing quite beats getting to be a reluctant bride for a day!

The only trouble I find with both outfits is the lack of pockets, my lack of free hands due to props (the camera and the Handbook vs the bouquet) and worrying constantly about whether the spikes in my fringe will hold. Other than that… they're terribly fun outfits to wear.

I've added just one personal touch: I wear a wedding ring as part of my cosplay constantly; we try to be as in-character as possible at events so it's just as a sort of in-joke/explanation as to why Lydia and Betelgeuse would be 'travelling around' together in the first place- a post-movie marriage!

Best thing about cosplaying this character: Getting to be Lydia. I say it constantly after I take it off and de-make-up- it crushes me not to be her for another day, not to re-enact moments from my favourite movie like that and not get to experience the adrenaline rush I get from cosplaying. I would literally do it every day if I could. Not to mention the feedback, which is incredible! I can't believe the amount of people who have told me how much I look like Winona Ryder, it just leaves me speechless!

Name: Amy
Age: 29
Where are you from?: Brighton

How long have you been cosplaying?: I’m relatively new to cosplay ( I first started October last year) but I’ve been dressing up and running around in strange clothing since I could toddle.

What did you decide to cosplay this character?: Up until the point of thinking ‘how the heck am I going to do this?’ I was running a Tumblr blog as Beetlejuice – answering questions in character and drawing stupid pictures to accompany them. Me and Hannah got chatting about how much fun it would be to have a get-together at MCM- and then it shifted to who we could cosplay as. I saw other people were having a great time dressing as him- and that sealed it.

Tell us about your costume: The striped suit took the most work, and was my first project. Actually it was my first big sewing project too- always good to jump in at the deep end (several costume meltdowns later- it’s really not. Don’t listen to me) It’s more of a take on his outfit than a straight movie copy-although I’m hoping to make a faithful replica one day soon.

I couldn’t find suitable fabric anywhere in the UK- and I’m still searching for that illusive perfect one. In the end I imported some lovely stuff from America with plush black stripes. It was tricky to stitch but looked great when aged with tea and coffee. The buttons are all different- a mixture little skulls and an antique beetle decorated one for the front.

The makeup was the hardest part- lots of trial and error. I have very long hair- and hiding it all to give him his distinctive receding hair-line was going to be the biggest challenge. Luckily I found an amazing tutorial on Youtube by a makeup artist who not only developed great technique using dyed crepe wool- but also made high quality bald caps to build the look onto. From there I found out from others sites about using train landscaping hobby grass to create his mossy stubble and what paints and powders worked. The teeth are another important aspect- they really transform the whole look into something really nasty. It’s evolving every time and I love figuring out new elements to add.

Best thing about cosplaying this character: Hard to pick just one! I love being unrecognisable as me- and at the same time a character lots of people know and respond to. It’s also feels great to be really gross looking- and not have to worry when makeup gets all over your clothes. It just becomes part of the look.
