Normally I just pick one costume from the Internet and highlight that but since the Silent Hill movie and I'm sure everyone at conventions has seen more then one or two Silent Hill cosplayers around I thought it would be cool to show a fair few of the awesome ones I tracked down. My favourites.

Interview With Robert Kirkman

Last night there was a small event in my hometown and one of the free things they gave out was a small mag and it had an interview with Mr Walking Dead himself. Robert Kirkman so I thought people might be interested in reading.

Dead Space: The New Doom 3?

It's no secret I love the Dead Space franchise form the games to the movies and the books but I have never played a DOOM until recently. I knew DOOM was the godfather of shooting games and even invented the 'FPS' First Person Shooter genre one handed but had never played.

My partner is huge into DOOM and after we both played DOOM 3 BFG ed at Eurogamer they bought it when it came out and I played DOOM 2 with them but last two weeks I've been watching them play it and I've noticed..

DOOM 3 is looooads like DEAD SPACE.. I mean -alot- and  since DOOM 3 came first DEAD SPACE seemed very heavy based on DOOM 3 and I really could not help but notice.

Dead Space 2008    vs    DOOM 3 2004

Similarities between the two games..

- Both are set in space

Both the main characters you play as DS: Isacc Clarke and D3: Doomguy you hardly if EVER hear them talk. I think you never hear Doomguy talk and I know Isaac doesn't talk more then a line in DS one but is abit more chatty in number 2. You also hardly see ether's face due to DOOM 3 being an FPS and Isaac with his headgear.

Now with the weapons, this might all be personal choice but I find the plasma gun in DOOM3 the best gun in that game and the plasma run blade cutter from DS to be the best in that game. Both weapons are 'plasma' based and both blue..

In both games some science type buttheads find this artifact and shit goes wrong.

Both have nasty warped nasties that are more then likely both mutated humans.

Also similarties include..

Asshole science guys who think what they are doing is right.
Same spaceship looking insides.
Goo growing everywhere
A wide range of nasties.

But there are a fair few different things too such as Issac's girlfriend or wife is on the ship that's infected and he's going there to do a job. Doomguy it's just his job.

Deadspace have a crazy faith based on the alien crap they dug up known as Unitology.

Isaac is a engineer and Doomguy is a marine.

DS has alot more plot..

So there are enough things that keep the games different but there is no denying there is an awful look of similarities between the two. I googled what the rest of the Internet thought of my passing 'Huh.. those are similar...' and I'm not the only one.

DEAD SPACE 3 is coming out next year as is DOOM 4 from what I have heard. So is Dead Space like a new and modern DOOM? borrowed ideas pretty heavily from the DOOM game? or is it all just nerdy nit picking from the Internet?

The Walking Dead Season 3 - First Impression's

Well I finally got around to watching the third season of The Walking Dead and watched episode one and two today and my first impressions thus far are pretty good.

SPOILERS!!

I like how they are now at the prison like in the comic book. The seasons before it has elements of the comic just railroaded off of it alot such as people being dead when they should be alive and vice verse, new characters and group dynamics but you just need to learn [myself included I know] that the show and the comic are two different things, just treat them as such. I have made peace with my nerd rage and even though I miss Dale there are some cool characters like Daryl so I'm letting it go and enjoying.

Like I said treat them as two different things as there are so many changes.

But the prison this season is one from the comic and so is the character Michonne who was always a big favourite of mine in the comic books, she's amazing and I was worried they'd ef her up something awful but no, from what I have seen of her she is still awesome.

I still think she is a beautiful warrior goddess! I know, I gush, but I love the character and I love the person they picked for the role. I hope to see alot more of her in coming episodes, they made such a huge deal of seeing her at the end of season two that I thought there would be alot more of her in ep one but that's ok, the two eps so far have been action packed and enjoyable.

I like the friction between Lori and Rick it's more on the surface then it ever was in the comics at that stage and even though Lori is a total bitch in the comic and hey most of the time in the show you feel sorry for her as you see her break down in episode two.

So they find the prison and empty it out, goes fairly ok and they see prisoners like in the comic. A group of people who seem ok, little bland but more or less decent enough lead by a massive cock in a white vest and sporting some damn greasy looking hair.

There's the classic conflict between our group and the prison but new badasss Rick and Daryl soon deal with that and shit happens leaving the convicts down to two, a cool headed black fella and a very confused but chatty man. I'm kinda glad they are alive shame about the big black fella he was cool and the way he didn't want to fight the walkers made me feel he wasn't in there for anything bad.

I'm so glad nasty greasy asshole face was killed. Was in self defence though so it was justified. Also Hershal got bit and Rick chopped his leg off.. in Dale's absence it seems Hershal is getting his one legged fate.

That's all I have seen so far but this season seems very actiony with a much better mix of human stuff vs zombie stuff.

I think this might be the best season so far and looking back at the pretty...eh moments in season one this is great.

Look forward to seeing how it differs/is the same as the comic.

So far I rate a 5 out of 5! mega bonus points for it being the first thing in a very long time to make me feel a little grossed out at the gore.

Silent Hill: Revelation

(2012)

After wanting to watch this movie since I saw an advert for it on TV all my plans to see it kept falling through and I finally got to go see it with a friend this week ands boy oh boy it wasn't worth the wait. The first movie was a little.. ehh.. but at least it had creepy and some scary bits when the air raid siren sounded and the world changed into this dark and horrid place filled with strange monsters, this squeal felt like mush compared to it.

Now I've never played any of the early games only Silent Hill 4: The Room which doesn't really have much to do with the other three to my understanding and seen my partner play Silent Hill: Homecoming which is an American telling of the series so I really don't know how fans of the franchise view the movies, how much they differ from the games. Well I know the obvious like the whole little girl thing is shite.. I think....

But anyway on to the movie review.. spoilers as always but hey, used to that now right?

Movie pretty much starts with our main girl who is a teen Sharon from the first movie who is very much designed to look like Heather from Silent Hill 3 and even takes on the same fake name later on.

I think stuff like that is a pretty good touch to movies based on games/novels makes it more cannon in sometimes an otherwise off the rails retelling/live action version.

So it starts off with a dream, she is in a fucked up fairground with fire and giant evil clown faces but you still can't help but think a fairground in the dark with all the lights is still pretty, hell or not. She is being chased by cloaked men wearing gas masks and she hides behind a small stall of dying goldfish and we see another obvious hint towards the SH franchise.

Robbie The Rabbit

Who is the mascot for the games franchise. You think that's pretty clever and also a good touch but you end up seeing it EVERYWHERE in the movie so it loses its 'ooh!' factor but still neat. She is spotted and makes a dash for it to a carousal that is powered by a more hefty Pyramid head then I remember, she's on it with him and the horses turn into bondage clad naked ladies who if I remember are gagged.. more fetish then SH style.

Then she wakes from the dream and her father comforts her and tells her it was all a dream.. then he gets killed..

That's right the movie starts off with a dream inside a dream, some classy shit right there.

So as we know from the last movie she was stuck in another world with her mother Rose but this is the fun part.. SHE FOUND A KEY TO GET HER OUT BUT ONLY ONE COULD DO IT SO SHE SAVED HER CHILD om nom nom can you taste the delicious cliche? I sure can, nice and bitter.

And she was fed lies about losing her memory saying she was in a car crash and her mother died all the while her father knowing the truth and promising to keep his child safe. The most corny and blagh worthy scene where Rose talks to him for the last time using the words 'My Love' no less then three times in a five minute piece of film, feeling it's really forced into there to make you feel bad for him..

Sigh..

So 'The Order' from Silent Hill want her to return there and keep drooping massive hints in the shape of horrid dreams every night and her seeing things from time to time but she tries to ignore them. Her dad is keeping her safe from the Order and they move around alot, cue angsty attitude fuled teenage hormones, thankfully she spends very little time in school.

She does meet hot goth kid straight from a TWILIGHT audition though who is very taken with her.

Some douche bag called Vincent in a very gay vest. I could not have cared less about him the whole way through.

So now we have a teenage boy who is very into a teenage girl.. I LOVE awkward teenage lover stories and drama smack bang in the middle of my fucking horror movies. It gets old fast and the movie is consumed with boring chatting between these two, very boring.

Stuff happens she gets framed for killing a guy while having one of her 'this is Silent hill' visions and is on the run from the cops and her dad has been kidnapped. Along with gay vest man they go to Silent Hill haza! something happens to him but I can't remember/care and she bumps into the creepy girls mother.

Gets told she's part of Alyssa[I think] and she was given a chance to live whatever blahblah then the world becomes the evil dark mushy one and she is told it's safer inside and she runs inside where a very awesome and well done Silent Hill scene.

She is in a room full of mannequins and she see's one breath and turn to her which makes her jump, we then see an ass naked woman on a medical table looking hopeless and tells her to run as from toes to head she becomes plasic and turns into a mannequin, another girl is trapped in clingfilm-ish webbing and Heather free's her.

Seems they were victims of this mother fucking creepy ass thing.

The way it moved and the noises it made were very creepy and fitting in with the sort of fear Silent Hill is good for giving. Or maybe I just fucking hate mannequins they give me the creeps anyway, gah. Sadly in their escape attempt Heathers new friend is captured.

Lots of running, puffing and panting and not much else happens as she explores this shitty gritty world.

Oh before gay vest man vanished... somehow.. I think gas masks or something yadda yadda.. he reveals he is the son of the woman who runs 'The Order' and was sent to get her and trick her back to Silent Hill but he then decided he fancied her instead and wanted to help her and that the other half of the Silent Hill key was with his crazy uncle who got locked in a nut house.

Yeah, it was as shit as it sounded.

So more running around Silent Hill as we have boring in between parts with Vincent and his mother who runs the order and all that.

She comes across one of the monsters we see in one and a common SH monster, man with arms across him  wodling in a very slow fashion towards her.

Do this is where I get foggy as I loose interest in and our of this movie.

She goes off to find where vest boys crazy uncle is cus he has the other half of that key thing she found that will in the end destroy Alyssa and all the nasty people trapped in Silent Hill will be saved, haza. She finds the uncle and he's blind and chained up, some boring exchanges are made and the other half of the key thing is inside him so he shoves into him and becomes a shit monster who just kidnaps her, this is short lived as she pulls it out of him and he explodes into ass.

This was so pointless and crap I have no idea why it was even here a good ten minutes or more of filler in an already boring movie.

After this shit little exchange of nothingness she leaves and all the cells have people inside grabbing at her causing her to scream and what not but then we see the person we have all been waiting for, the man of the hour, Pyramid Head! who comes along with his non small hallway friendly sword and cuts off their arms, she manages to sneak away and sees where they are taking her heart throb, that guy she's only just met.. Vincent tied to a gurney and being carted away.

We then see in the room nurses, yes they brought back the nurses which are really cool looking and creepy even if their very ample cleavage is more of a distraction then anything else. They are drawn to sound and it seems these ones have been 'tamed' or at least the men in the masks are able to keep them at bay with stick like tazers. They planned to leave Vince with them but the two guards not being very careful come to a nasty end at the busty nurses who whenever they move or go to attack make orgasim sounds.

Yep.

So Vince is now left with nurses who react to his every move but hey Heather/Sharon is here to save the day and they get out fine.

The way the nurses move is really cool and again very Silent Hill and what the movie needed alot more of, large boobs or not they had a creepy air about them and looked like your normal SH nurse monsters.

(Also the thing on the x-ray sheets on the back? yeah thats the same monster who framed Heather for killing random guy at the start and also comes again later..)

So our two teenagers end up running around and they find the creepy carousel and she basically relives her dream even down to PH doing abit of slave labor. Soon Alyssa appears and confronts Heather and soon becomes her older form but dark. Alyssa is understandably annoyed that the part of her she wanted free and happy is back in Silent Hill and more then likely means her end.

They soon embrace in the most intense hug ever and some smack words float around and Heather beats her darker self and they become one, The carousal has gone down into the ground and there is her father being held by Vinces's mother who looks like she should be an elf in Lord Of The Rings. But turns out the mother was that monster from before and in the X-rays allll alllooong and goes to promptly kick Heather's ass now she defeated her dark self.

But before she can lay a finger on Heather Pyramid head bursts in and protects her, I guess cus now she and Alyssa are whole now that the place takes orders from her. So an epic battle between the two monsters happens and it's all rather flash and gory and Sean Bean gets saved by the kids and the run away.

Now with the day saved they can all leave and be happy! haza! but Sean Bean decides he wants to stay in Silent Hill and find his wife Rose and be with her, without that much attachment for her father Heather just kind of lets him and runs off with Vincenet and they leave Silent Hill.

As they hitch a ride from a trucker a prison bus with a police guard heads towards Silent hill which is the start of the game 'SILENT HILL: DOWNPOUR' which makes me expect that to also be the plot of a third movie..

So finally that review is over and we can all get on with our lives and forget this movie ever happened.

Scares: 2.5/5
Gore: 3/5
Acting: 4/5
Plot: 2/5
Overall Enjoyment: 2.5/5

Longleat Halloween Day

Well I was going to go to Thrope Park for one of their Fright Nights but since I had already been to Thrope the same month and my partner is abit sick of the place so we decided a nice easy going day at Longleat Safari park which we both enjoy.

Now the Halloween 'scares' are very aimed at kids but I guess having a review that's for family fun for once isn't a bad thing is it?

They had a pumpkin trail around the grounds of the park where you had to write down the animal names you found on the huge pumpkins dotted around for the chance to win a chocolate bar. (I won one and it tasted like victory)

These weren't hard to miss if you went to everything in the park.

But it was fun anyway trying to spot them all and it might have been harder if you were a kid. Also I bet they don't change them every year so would be easy to remember for next year, oh and the guy who checked my sheet didn't actually check it so I could have made them up.. but that would ruin the fun right?

Next was the 'Ghost Train' which is their normal train with some fake spider web dotted around it and later on some guys dressed up jump at you from either side and if your not expecting it, does make you jump a little. Also the train slows down and you get to see a Witch and her dressed up men prance around and after you are rewarded a lollipop.

Which is pretty neat and amusing if your an adult. Also the music on the train are songs like 'This Is Halloween' 'Ghostbusters' and 'Addams Family' with kids singing the lyrics not the original songs.. Though 'Monster Mash' was it's original format.

I can't tell if the staff love their job or they all draw straws on who has to dress like what this year..

They had something called Hocus Pocus Hall which was a large room in the Longleat House which was overly decorated and had some witches hanging about in it, once again a chance for your child to get even more candy and sugar into their system.

The batcave which is my most favourite place on earth is now renamed 'Draculars Batcave' where a guy dressed up jumps at you in a corner making you and your kids jump before going into a cave full of flying bats which might have been enough to freak someone out already.

Bats are so effing cute.

If you are ever in Longleat please buy a bat pin for a charity to help our bats out. Or go here to also help out UK bats.

All day you can get your face painted or carve a pumpkin. I carved a pumpkin as it's my yearly thing and I'd forgotten/left it too late to buy one and carve at home so I bought one and did it right there at Longleat for £3 which is about the price TESCOS had them for so I didn't mind.

Place also had a smart talking dragon who was a pain but the kids seemed to love him.

Now for the thing we had to pay extra for £7.50 a ticket for the Ghost Tour of Longleat house. Now at first it will feel like you got ripped off bad as they tell you some history about the house but take you around the bottom of the house and show you a very fake head that even the kids in our group were like 'are you kidding me?' the first ten minutes were slow and abit boring but soon you leave the storage rooms with the flashing ghost pictures and poundland plastic head in a box and go to parts of the house that you don';t get to see normally.

Also beware of staff in sheets..

The guy who takes us on our ghost tour is dressed like a butler and he's fairly good, he throws himself into the role well enough to make it entertaining. The kids get sucked into the story even if it is very history heavy as he pretends he see's things, fake noises go off as you walk through the dark and walk up old stairs.

The house itself is so beautiful.

To me there is no doubt that this place is haunted. We learn the story of the main ghost that haunts Longleat house and get taken around where it was based which is closed off to the public and I think only opened up to the Ghost Tour people.

So many old paintings of kings, queens, earls, dukes and god knows what of the past. If your not into the supernatural or goofy ghost tours then the history alone is worth going for cus as I said might be the only time you get to see certain parts of the house.

The house is creepy enough on it's own without anyone trying to make you jump along the way. Most the scares are cheesy and very awkwardly bad but amusing for us adults but enough to get the kids scared. The kids in our group seemed to enjoy it and be a fair bit scared at the same time.

The 'Monk' aka the man in the sheet leaped out in front of us in this hall way and I'll admit I yelped loudly which didn't just scare the hell out of the kids but also the man showing us around, I was dying of embarrassment the whole way after that.

The ghost walk I would rate 1/5 for a horror fan but as a normal person or someone who loves history [Which I also do] then a good 4/5 and your kids will love it.

It took us about an hour to go around and we got to meet Henry the 8th and a wife or two.

If you want the story of the Ghost of Longleat house here it is.. (Told differently at the Ghost Walk) In the Ghost walk it is told that the Lady Louisa was lovers with her footman and it wasn't a rumor started and they also found the body of said footman and had it carbon dated, a true story)

As is so often the case with phantoms, the Longleat House ghost is an innocent victim of someone else's actions.
In 1733 Lady Louisa Carteret, a lovely and gentle lady, married the 2nd Viscount Weymouth of
Longleat House. With her to the house, she took her servants, one of whom was a footman. He was devoted to her. He was a true, 'good and faithful servant', and Lady Louisa recognised his fine qualities. However, the other servants were jealous of his privileged position in the eyes of Lady Louisa. So one of them told Viscount Weymouth the totally untrue story that the footman was having an affair with his wife. The Viscount, a man known for his hot temper, flew into a rage.
Murder!
Some accounts say that the Viscount had the footman ambushed and thrown down the spiral staircase outside the library. Others say that the Viscount confronted the man himself and personally threw him down the stairs. Whatever, the footman finished up dead, at the bottom of the stairs, with his neck broken. The Viscount quickly had the body buried in the cellar and told his wife that the footman had left without saying a word to her.
Of course, Lady Louisa didn't believe the story. Thinking that he might be imprisoned somewhere in the vast house, she spent night after night in a frantic attempt to find the missing man. Sick with worry, she caught a chill which soon developed into pneumonia. Thus it was that, in her weakened state, she died giving birth at the age of 22.
The Green Lady
It is the phantom of Lady Louisa who is the Longleat House ghost. Apparently, she is condemned to forever wander the house in a vain search for her murdered friend. She is affectionately known as the 'Green Lady', on account of the green dress in which she appears. The corridor outside the library where the footman met his death is appropriately known as the "Green Lady's Walk".
There is evidence to back up the Longleat House ghost story. According to a Marquess of Bath, when central heating was being installed in the early 20th century, what was left of a body was discovered buried in the cellar. It was wearing the uniform of a footman from the time of Queen Anne. In order to avoid further scandal, the bones were collected together in a shoe box and quietly buried in the local churchyard.

Thank you!
