I've had these tickets booked since the 6th of July 2012 and suddenly out of nowhere it was the next day! Last night me and my friends went to see the theatre show, I have now seen all three versions.. the movie, the novel and where it all started.. the play.
The show is about an hour and 45 minutes long with a 15 minute break so your there about 2 hours which isn't bad. We got pretty good seats, middle of the row 5th from the back and if you think seats aren't that important... wrong. If you want to get some of the full awe from some of the effects.. you need to be closer to the front.
So the show starts off with an older man and started to read but in a very dull manner and it makes you think 'Is it meant to be like this?' and then he gets heckled fro the back by the second actor who comes on stage.
The older man is Arther Kipps and he is haunted by the women in black and thinks that telling his story of what has happened to him will ease the night horrors he still gets from the horrid things that happened.
But he needs help from a stage performer to do it right.
The first half hour is mostly comical banter between the two actors and breaking the story to talk to one another, after about 50 minutes it really gets into.
The show is between a cast of three and only two spoke. The man who is Arther Kipps doesn't play Arther Kipp the younger actor does. They both throw themselves into their roles like crazy and you get really into it.
The sound effects and the lighting that gives off the look of so many levels and different settings it's amazing. The pacing is a tad slow at first but then gets going. I can't stress enough how good these actors were and how all the lighting and everything just made it a great show.
There are even moments where the whole place gets so much colder really building the tension and the atmosphere, there were allot of times that it was so tense and built up I was gripping my arm rest and felt my friends either side of me flinch and jump as a piece would drag out and draw you in and then SNAP!
Also there are times they have smoke to make it look like the fog on the marsh, the way it swirls around you and you end up feeling like you can't see anything just like the man being Mr Kipps, your heart races and you can't help but feel dread.
They really make it come alive and I've not been so scared in such a long time.
If you ever get a chance to see this.... do it, go buy tickets now! Our tickets cost £23.50 each and we got good seats. Worth it.
