Well the reason I have not been very active is my laptop has decided it's tired of my bullshit and refuses to charge so for the next week or two it'll be hard to update. Right now I am using the pc at work and oh god the rough and icky feeling keys on my delicate nerd fingers..
BUT when I do return it'll be with updates and also a contest where you will be able to win some cool crap from me. Also looking into live reviews, vblogging and other things. I feel I've not been putting as much as I should in.
And I need to get back on my weekly 'Silly Saturdays' and 'Costume of the month' who knew going from 8 hours of work to 30+ would be so demanding on you?
Another Brit movie for you all to learn about! Now one thing I will get out of the way now is my personal feelings about the subject of this movie. It's about the banning of fox hunting here in the UK and how it did start alot of fights and there were as many pro hunting people as anti hunting and the movie is about how it got banned but people still did it and the government didn't care to enforce the law and hunting parties carried on, some animal rights extremists take matters into their own hands.
I grew up in the country where fox hunts were a local and often thing and my personal stand on it is I'm against it, it's disgusting. Hunting in such a way is vile, hunting for food I'm less against even as a non meat eater I understand the food chain and some places people need to hunt to live. But to have an animal chased around and then mauled to death by some posh assholes dogs nopenopenopenope. So as an anti hunt person watching pro hunting people treated in the same way they do the Fox's so it was a rather conflicted feeling during this movie, getting to see what these people deserve but also feeling bad for the well written characters.
I am not pro extremist I know this is just a movie and ANY extremist movements one way or another is bad. Now I've gotten the 'it's all about me' part of this movie out of the way time for the review.
So the movie is about the youngest hunt lord in the UK and his other friends who go to Scotland to get out of the heat of the media where so many anti hunt people really hope this man gets a smack to put it lightly. Some animal extremists follow them and make a movie on what they did to these people and it goes online the movie is a re inaction of what happened to these people as they are interviewed through out.
Think of FOURTH KIND but the footage doesn't run along side each other it's more like a survivors story while actors act it out. So each character has two actors a real one who is in the interview and a fake one who acts them in the 'movie' it's abit strange but also pretty neat.
The cast is Lucas the hunt master, his best bum buddy Charlie, brother, brothers black American girlfriend and his ex girlfriend he lusts for and is planning to ask to marry him.
So they are all up in Scotland having a gay ol' time and shooting deer and what not when Liv the ex girlfriend tells Lucas she is already engaged, he has a massive huff and storms out the cottage and vanishes.
Soon they all wake up in their underwear in the middle of the hills all alone, the fear and panic grip them as they have no idea what is going on. All their reactions are different as they stumble around and freeze their bits off.
So after stumbling around like morons for a few moments soon they get shot at by the animal rights extremists and run for their lives getting to feel how so many animals have felt in the past, scared, confused and loud noises going off around them as they run in any direction. No one really gets hurt and they are simply forced to read out a speech on camera by the masked men before being left alone to go back to the cottage.
Still no sign of Lucas so the two manly men in big sweaters decide to go and find him and they see him sticking to his guns and refusing to read this out as it goes against anything he stands for, he is an icon for the hunt world and he knows he has to stand for what he believes in even if he is tortured and his life is on the line.
He doesn't budge standing strong to his convictions. But he soon folds when they get hold of the women he loves..
The plot is very basic and no one dies and for a movie called 'Blooded' there is a very noticeable lack of blood. The movie is good and gripping if you have this kind of anti hunt or pro hunt view and get sucked into it. Like I said above, I was conflicted. The movie takes a little to get going but I really enjoyed the style it was filmed in.
I thought there was some very well shot scenes and lovely scenery but a very unscary horror movie this one was. It was enjoyable but as a horror it lacked alot. No scares pretty much no blood but it was still a good movie, really felt like a documentary which I think was what it was going for so good work.
Just having some fun this weekend and made a fun little game to help you avoid watching something godawful.. or maybe like me you just want to look at your collection of horror movies and see how many you can cross off!
Ok this is going to be a post about the ending of the game and stuff so look away now.
SPOILERS
The Walking Dead
So by now Kenny has lost his wife and son who I'll be honest... not the best characters anyway also Lilly fucked off with the RV in my version because I was too nice to leave her to die like I should have. I guess she was pissed that me and Kenny jumped at the chance to kill that shitty old fucker she called Dad.
Man that was a good moment. Anyway so you make it into town with the help of angry motherly character Christa and short stack well needed comedy guy Omid.
Oh and Charles the homeless guy but sadly he lasts all of five minutes as he dies trying to save Clem who Ben,t he massive useless fucking douchebag that is Ben just runs and leaves her to get noshed on.
So anyway the ending is Lee gets bit, I choose to show everyone my bite and they all helped as much as they could, oh and I also gave my Lee the Rick treatment and had his arm removed.. I honestly thought 'hey they save someone in the comic and the show like that!' but no.. didn't work.
As a game The Walking Dead doesn't have alot of game play to offer, alot of the time I found myself so sucked into watching the story and sometimes clicking buttons to pick what Lee says that when it comes to SMASH THE FUCKING A BUTTON TO WIN I forget it's NOT a movie and it is a game that requires I do something from time to time. If you like a game full of action, this isn't for you but if you prefer something that's heavy on story then this is amazing.
So as the ending draws you have a choice when Ben gets knocked back and Lee has to pull him up or let him drop.. I could not fucking let him drop fast enough,I always thought he was a shit and annoying buthole.. he got Carly shot in the face, left Clem to get killed, also was at fault for Kenny losing his wife and child.. and when Kenny was like 'Do what you need to' I was more then 'RIGHT AWAY BESTEST BEST FRIEND' it was not a hard choice for me.
This kind of game shows you the kind of person you are in a crises.. and I am a heartless asshole. I also tried to save Shaun not Duck at the start, pfft.. kids.
So in the end Ben gets dropped, Kenny vanishes trying to save Christa and you are left alone to find Clem who you do save.
And oh god.. when your alone with her and turning into a zombie regardless of cutting your arm off... I have never sobbed so much at a game, it was intense and gripping, you have been with Lee and Clem all the way and everything I did in the game was for the sake of Clem, I always tried to do right by her and the bond they had was.. excuse me for sounding like a wussy baby.. really beautiful and touching.
The whole scene and the dialogue between the two characters feels so heart felt and gripping that it honestly broke me heart watching it. I picked for Clem to shoot Lee to stop from seeing him turn. Oh god, so many manly tears. My partner also had a cry so it wasn't just me being a massive wussy..
It was made even sadder by the fact there was some sad chick song at the end which just added to it.. and then the ending seeing Clem all alone... baaaaw.
Clem seeing her folks as zombies then having to shoot or see the one person she had left in the world turn into a zombie... really pulled at the heart strings. I'm a fan of the comic and the show but this game has raised the plot and story bar SO FUCKING HIGH that the other two media forms need to pull their acts together.
Also the ending where Clem see's two people in the distance? totes going to be the start of the next game I recon.
So cast break down..
Lee
Is a pretty awesome guy and a great character to play as, not to mention he has hella smooth voice. Such a great stand in father for Clem.
Clem
I honestly thought as she was a kid she would be the most annoying person in the game but she's this adorable, lovely and brave little girl.
Doug
Some fat guy you don't pick cus it's him or a hot chick with a gun.
Duck
Ok this is the most annoying person.. though he's not too bad and it's sad what happens to him.. Also don't feel too bad, he dies and comes back as Sid from Toy Story..
Glenn
Oh hey that guy from the show and comic who's pretty much 'Hi this is my cameo... bye!'
Hershal
Pretty much the same as Glenn and well.. a meany doodoo head.
Kenny
Redneck soon to be bestest best friend forever. I wish my ending with him had been a littler gayer better then it had been, but I guess punching him in the train wasn't the right way to cement the best of friendships.. I liked him all the way through tho.
Larry
That massive cunthole that no one hesitated to kill off. I hated him but I think that was the point.
Lilly
Cuntholes angry always PMSing daughter who could benefit from a good dicking.
Shaun
Yeah.. that guy
Carly
I liked her, she was a good strong non massive vagina rage monster female. I was hoping to bonk her but fucking Ben got her face blown off.
Kat
No impression on her what so ever other then her accent would change about a hundred times and sometimes altogether vanish.
Marc
Who the? where did he com- oh doesn't matter he's food now anyway.
Christa
I thought she was another rage monster women when we first meet her but she's a pretty kick ass female char in the end and I totally wanted her and Omid to have Clem.
Ben
What a useless bellend.. if ever a character I wanted to get rid of.. was so useless and lanky and stupid and useless and... yeah I had no moments hesitance to drop that fucker into the all you can eat zombie buffet.
Molly
I didn't like her or any of the Vernon's lot.. found them boring and she was just....eh....
Omid
I liked Omid and wish there had been more of him as he was a nice light hearted dash of comedy here and there but he didn't seem goofy or shoe horned in.
The Stranger
Who I'm convinced was just William Defoe in video game form..
Also sorry to chuck about a thousand images at you but I don't think it's just a coincidence that the achievements look alike..
Yeah it has been a looong time since I posted but I've been hella busy with work and what not but I do love my blog and you guys who stumble upon it looking for 'zombie porn' cheers.
Anyway my review this week is 'Seconds Apart' another 'After Dark' original.
Seconds Apart
(2011)
Here we have two twins who are really twins despite the fact I can tell them apart but only just and they have a very creepy relationship together and that seems to be the theme of the movie, how twins how a gift and a link with each other.
So the movie starts with a high school party, bunch of jock types sat around the table talking about how certain girls pubic hair is cut, you know the normal things that normal teenage boys like to talk about. Suddenly one of them see's the twins and their video camera and the scene changes.
It goes from all laughter and joking to dead serious as they play a game of Russian roulette but still talk about the subject matter of girls pubic hair. One boy gets his brain blown out and without so much as a blink they carry on with the next game.
The twins are at home and had recorded the whole thing, even till the end of the movie I was never sure what it was they are always trying to find from their victims reactions or moments before they die. It's mentioned the whole way through as 'The prject' and they have about a million fucking tapes.
One hell of an awesome black cop with a passion for gum is on the crime scene and where as his partner thinks it's an open and closed 'just what kids do these days!' remark our man thinks there is something much sinister at work and goes into the school to find out why a bunch of promising young meathea- sportsmen would all off themselves and before the big game!
One girl Katie is very cagey and spills about the creepy twins and their 'gift' and how she was fooled into it before too and how they have a film on her also... Our cop gets a sicking feeling and interviews the two twins who give them shit all to work with but just makes our cop all the more suspect about them.
Not very pleased with how the cop is on to them they go to the priest who is the head of the school and grill him on who dobbed them in.
Now for a very gross scene that will make you wince as it's pretty dead on. The priest had come back from work in Africa after getting ill with what people will commonly know as 'Guine worm' a nasty parasite that just so happens to emerge in the priest just as they mention it.
These shits are bad news if they are broken and dead painful and watching the whole scene made me feel abit bluah..
Along the way one of the twins becomes very close with a girl called Eve and possibly they fall for one another and the other twin is pretty moody about the whole thing since now his brother is getting pussy and not wanting to play 'lets film freaky shit together' any more.
But first things first they decide to get rid of Katie for being a loose end. They are all in class and she starts to hear the voice of her dead father.. and then see's the priest teaching the class as him. The twins are holding hands because their magical powers can only activate when being slightly gay together apparently..
And they cause her to see things which aren't there and she kills herself.
I have no idea how they managed to video tape that as I sure as shit didn't see the camera.. but hey moving on.
The movie has two story lines, the twins and then Jonah the cop who lost his wife in a horrid fire and is still having nightmares and is very traumatised over it. His body is also covered in burns and from the moment you see him you know he's a burns victim, it's tastefully done and obvious enough to have you wondering about his paste from the moment we meet him.
He follows the twins around trying to get to the bottom of everything and see's them lure a pedo to his doom and he now knows something is going on, he goes to talk to the boys parents who are the most freaky and strange people you will ever see.
I don't know about you but I found them way odder then the killer hand holding twins...
He gets very little help out of them but he see's a picture with the mother and the new born twins and then goes home and does the old 'let goggle do my work for me' and find out about a centre for twins and the study of the bond they have together as now our detective is pretty sure the twins are doing something with their minds to the people who end up dead..
He goes to the centre and watches a few videos which include very very blond twins getting a man to headbut himself to death and causing other twins to freak out.
Yep they have a gift alright..
By now the cop is onto them and the two boys are having issues of their own.
The one with the girlfriend doesn't want anything to do with the 'project' any more and wishes to leave but his brother doesn't take it very well and puts something in his brothers diabetes needle that knocks him out. The next day his girlfriend says he should have staid the night which confuses him.. but then realises his brother shagged his girlfriend before he could!
So in the school field he beats the crap out of the still evil shit brother. I'm still disappointed no one cried out 'STOP HITTING YOURSELF' but hey this is why I do reviews and not movies right?
It all goes to shit from here...
The good twin goes nuts and cuts his finger off giving it to his girlfriend and then cuts his hair and cries alot, I bet he listen to My Chemical Romance while doing all of this in the mirror. He goes to his parents who are very shit at helping..
When the cop bursts in it's revealed that everything from when the two boys were young has been fake, how the one single twin can't hold onto the illusions on his own that the two have been pulling their own strings the whole time.
Their mother and father are grossly disfigured thanks to the twins as little boys getting them to knife each other in the face over the discovery that their kids are fucking evil and made the baby sitter eat a yummy high in fibre glass and milk cereal mix and they over heard them wanting to keep the boys separate.. the house the live in is decayed and beyond repair, all the nice stuff was in their heads.
And the brothers had been doing it for so long that they had forgotten their own twisted webs.
Soon the bad twin comes in and knocks the cop out and carries on fighting with his brother whose girlfriend bursts in and fires a gun badly and all over the place, a fire is started but I for the life of me can't remember how.. but I think it's legit.. anyway so the girl is now knocked out and the boys fall through the ceiling and land on the table together.
Jonah the most awesome character ever wakes up and see's there is a fire, hears the girls screaming and runs to her aid while dealing with flash backs and horrid memories of when he tries so hard to save his wife from the flames of his own tragic past.
He gets her out and the firemen are already there, bloody fast in America! and he passes out while the twins lay together holding hands and talking about that perfect feeling or moment that they were trying to get by doing their project as the house burns down around them...
This movie is actually pretty fucking awesome. I bought it when I watched THE TASK and saw the trailer for it. My partner hates horror movies because they say all horrors are cheap scares bad gore and just awful but they really enjoyed this one.
The characters are good, engaging, the plot is both easy to follow but also deep and intense and it's not 'OMG MIND POWERS!' but it's done really well like 'oh shit that could happen' feeling almost. The twins and the cop are amazing actors, in fact I couldn't fault anyone's acting and I doubt this movie was the most high budget as it is just an After Dark original right to DVD affair.
The gore is done well, the effects are good. It's a very immersing movie.
I've had these tickets booked since the 6th of July 2012 and suddenly out of nowhere it was the next day! Last night me and my friends went to see the theatre show, I have now seen all three versions.. the movie, the novel and where it all started.. the play.
The show is about an hour and 45 minutes long with a 15 minute break so your there about 2 hours which isn't bad. We got pretty good seats, middle of the row 5th from the back and if you think seats aren't that important... wrong. If you want to get some of the full awe from some of the effects.. you need to be closer to the front.
So the show starts off with an older man and started to read but in a very dull manner and it makes you think 'Is it meant to be like this?' and then he gets heckled fro the back by the second actor who comes on stage.
The older man is Arther Kipps and he is haunted by the women in black and thinks that telling his story of what has happened to him will ease the night horrors he still gets from the horrid things that happened.
But he needs help from a stage performer to do it right.
The first half hour is mostly comical banter between the two actors and breaking the story to talk to one another, after about 50 minutes it really gets into.
The show is between a cast of three and only two spoke. The man who is Arther Kipps doesn't play Arther Kipp the younger actor does. They both throw themselves into their roles like crazy and you get really into it.
The sound effects and the lighting that gives off the look of so many levels and different settings it's amazing. The pacing is a tad slow at first but then gets going. I can't stress enough how good these actors were and how all the lighting and everything just made it a great show.
There are even moments where the whole place gets so much colder really building the tension and the atmosphere, there were allot of times that it was so tense and built up I was gripping my arm rest and felt my friends either side of me flinch and jump as a piece would drag out and draw you in and then SNAP!
Also there are times they have smoke to make it look like the fog on the marsh, the way it swirls around you and you end up feeling like you can't see anything just like the man being Mr Kipps, your heart races and you can't help but feel dread.
They really make it come alive and I've not been so scared in such a long time.
If you ever get a chance to see this.... do it, go buy tickets now! Our tickets cost £23.50 each and we got good seats. Worth it.
I try and keep nerd rage to a minimum as I try and review fairly and all that but I JUST got around to reading The Walking Dead tradeback 17 aka issue 100# and if you have not read those issues and do not wish for one hell of a spoiler.. leave now.
Glenn has been around since issue two or the very start if you are a trade back reader like myself. We have seen him go from the fast brave but also skitty boy from the start to a very brave, loyal husband and friend. We have watched him change and deal with so much.
He got with Maggie, helped to raise Sophia after things hit the fan. He's just been one hell of an awesome character.
So why did he have to die the way he did? I must admit I thought he was safe from being killed off, I mean they have done bold deaths in the past like alot of um kid killing.. and losing Lori who was with child was a very big HOLY SHIT THEY DIDN'T JUST DO THAT?! but honestly.. with all these minor people no one really cares about I thought the big cast would have been safe since from the original lot it was Glenn, Rick, Sophia, Carl and Andrea left from those Atlanta lot.
I think everyone we liked or got close to had a decently tragic or interesting death. But not Glenn, he gets beaten to death by some massive angry asshole and then he dies, his wife flips out and then it all but seems..over.
I personally think if they were going to kill Glenn it should have made me want to cry like a child but as sad as it was and I did give a good gasp it wasn't what he deserved. Call me a sad nerd if you must but Walking Dead is one fandom I have been with from the start and I'm highly emotionally involved with it.
And now he's dead Maggie who I also liked alot will more then likely never be seen again... will wait and see what the next tradeback holds.
One of my gifts for Christmas was The Walking Dead Board Game and I will be honest. I like the game, it's fun but if I had been the one to have paid for it I would have been disappointed. It has a very large price tag on it of between £29.99 and £34.99.
So be a dead set fan if you want to have this for a collection but unlike allot of boardgames you can play it alone [oddly enough] but your max players are four.
You get two sheets of people to play as, tokens and badges that you just pop out. Made of a gloss card and no struggle or damage when you separate them.
Each character has a 'special abilty' to help in the game. Some are awesome and some are a little naff.. You can play as Lori, Andrea, Glenn, Sean, Rick and Dale. Even though Daryl is in the card pictures you play with he is not a playable option.
The rules are easy enough to follow just takes a little. You start in 'CAMP' which is a safe zone and you can go in any direction you like but every blank spot or spot with a bullet saying +1 or +2 is a zombie attack which is done with dice rolls and cards.
The board has four 'zones' and the corner of each zone is a place such as 'Deparment Store' and you have to collect all four pieces to win but to get the piece you need to survive two zombie 'encounters' which are the 'encounter cards'
Now each encounter/zombie will say something such as 'if you lose you will lose an ally' and an ally is like a life, you have two with the chance to gain them but if you lose them you are dead and become a walker and need to play from the WALKER deck.
But you also get good ones such as if you beat the zombie you gain a 'Scrounge card' which are your weapons.
Now your Scrounge cards have weapons such as 'Handgun' seen in the picture.. the +3 is it's power so if you get a zombie of a +8 power you need to use the +3 card and roll at least a 5 to win on the dice.
So the battle mode is basically use your weapon cards as many as you like against a zombie's number. Some cards once again have power ups.
It's a fun and simple game but we played about 5 times and didn't win, either of us. So it's tough. And unless you are playing with more then two of you if one of you is a walker and one of you is a human it's a very slow cat and mouse game.
It's a cool game, I feel it would have been better as a card game but that's just me.
First thing I have to stress on is how much like HOSTEL it felt at times. I am sick of how Americans view Europe. I always get the feeling that they thing alot of European countries like Amsterdam, Russia and the likes are backwater and treat them as such, I had that vibe this movie and didn't enjoy it. That's my little gripe over with, if anything it just makes America look stupid.
ANYWAY the plot of the movie is a couple and their female friend and the guys brother are travailing all through Europe and then the brother [I can't remember names as they are all very boring cliche stereotypes and are just meat sacks] suggests an EXTREME TOUR to where the Chernobyl disaster hit back in 1986 .
We then meet Uri and an Aussie couple and the guy Aussie is wearing a very shit beanie hat and the whole way through the movie I want to rip it off of his fucking head. What a dick. So Uri takes them to a check point guarded by government guards who refuse them entry and so they sneak around another way.
Uri stops and shows them a lake where a mutant fish is dead, manages to freak some of the tour group out and when they go we see a load of mutant fish go for dropped meat, I really wish they had put more focus on the fish since one of them falls in the water later and only comes out with a tiny bite.. he should have been savaged and eaten not just a small bite..
Once they get there they park up and look around, from the time we meet Uri the movie perks up, the creepy place and the walking around a ghost town where things happened, it's good sadly that doesn't last very long. They go into one of the buildings and almost get taken out by a bear who was just chilling.
When they return to their van it's been vandalised, but no one lives here right? Uri keeps trying to contact people but nothing works.Soon him and Chris.. I think he's called Chris? leave the van to go and get help but Chris comes back to the van and has been savaged.
German Shepard's start to try and get in the van and everyone shits themselves... They wait till day to get out and look for help...
Now pretty much the plot is as follows.. they just go around in a group around the town and get deeper and deeper into the radioactive places and their group gets picked off by unseen mutants... It's like THE HILLS HAVE EYES but you never see the mutants really.. it has no character no underlying humour.. no nothing.. it's a bunch of tits running around from unseen things and vanishing one by one until there is just two at the end.
They end up in the reactor and their skin is melting and losing their vision etc etc and then they get caught by the guards who are in hazmat suits. He gets shot and she passes out just to be taken to a 'dcotor' which is really a room full of mutants... which you see for a split second.
Small review as this movie is boring, relies on jump tactics where you see nothing, slow boring pacing and the only person you like gets killed at the start.
Pretty much me showing off the awesome horror related goodies I've gotten this year.
Walking Dead board game, Walking dead comic, Ju-Oh White Ghost, Black Ghost, THE THING remake, The Women In Black all from my partner. Prometheus from my father in law, ITCH the killer anime from my friend, Chernobyl diaries from mother in law and The Walking Dead season 1 and Final Destination 5 from my sister.
Awesome haul. Means I can get rid of some of the crap in my horror movie collection.
