Guest Post: Halloween Candy Review!

Hello again, lovely horror fans! You may have guessed from the unfamiliar pleasantries that this isn't Jigsaw talking, this is Gemma from Cream Tea And Rose Jam bringing you a guest post. For someone who's best friends with a cos-player, I'm really not that crazy on dressing up for Halloween. What I look forward to most is the food. Ya know, when all the regular chocolate in the supermarkets gets re-packaged but is basically exactly the same beneath the pretty cobwebbed wrapper. I have taken it upon myself to try a load of Halloween sweets and chocolate so you don't have to! And hopefully, when it comes to your house parties/trick or treating/stuffing your face in front of the telly alone, you will be able to make an informed decision on which treats to buy.

First stop, the supermarket to acquire junk food

McVitie's Lemon & Slime Jaffa Cakes

These were on offer for a mere £1 with an RRP of £1.49. There were also a few other flavours such as; Tangy Orange, Screaming Sours and Strawberry Slime. When I pulled one out of the packet, I was surprised at how small they were, and they only lasted maybe a few bites. Definitely more for kids (obviously) than adults. The dark chocolate however, was very pleasant with the tangy, citrusy lemon jelly and they still had that familiar 'Jaffa Cake' taste.

Cadbury's Crunchy Spider

These are one of my favourites from the past years, they're just so cute! Plus, I was chuffed to find the girl version nestled in among all the boring boy ones. She tasted the same as always, meh, just Cadbury's choc with crunchy rice shells, but yummy none the less. It may seem a small piece of chocolate, but you do get a nice thick piece to sink your teeth into!

Chocolate Mini Characters

I was surprised that these were only a pound, judging on the size of the box. Opening it however, the chocolates are rather tiny and it is mostly all packaging. The chocolate itself is rather sickly, but the packaging is nice and comes with a joke on the packet for kids. Though for a pound, these would be worth a buy maybe for party bags, or chucking in a bowl as decoration.

Scaredy Cats

These are really lovely, they are quite big in size, cat-shaped and blackberry flavoured. They're a mere 315 calories for 100g, so you wont feel guilty chowing down on a whole bag.

Strawberry Creme Brains

These were surprisingly nice, they were quite big and melt in your mouth to reveal the creamy strawberry mousse inside. However, this could just be my taste as my friend disliked them, so maybe avoid if you don't like praline chocs or slightly sickly sweet stuff. Unfortunately, I can't say they look that much like brains as I had to read the tag to understand what they were.

Scary Stretch 'Em Jellies

I was really happy to try these because I always used to buy the little individual alien jellies as a kid and they were so very tasty. Unfortunately, in the present day we are deprived of lovely artificial colours and flavours, so these jellies were incredibly lacking compared to my memory of them. They're still good value for money however, and you do get a nice variety of shapes.

Pumkin Halloween Mallow

Probably one of my favourites, this is a lovely treat and very cute looking. It's a vanilla flavoured marshmellow coated with a little sugar. The eyes are also fun to eat, hehe.

Cadbury's Scream Egg

These are exactly the same as the legendary creme egg, except with a gruesome green yolk. Definitely a must have on Halloween, just to watch the rotten-looking egg's innards spill out while you're eating!

Witches Hair

I love the idea of these, this is a witch who looks like she's really got her knickers in a twist over something. You can eat her cascading, lime-coloured hair and marvel at the sour flavours. My only gripe, is they're not 'super sour' as described on the packaging, only a little. But I suppose that's even better for kids in that way.
