So I was bored and wanted to watch an anime and my partner suggested something that started with D and I skimmed so god awful tittles then this one came up, I'd heard a few friends mention this in the past so I had some idea that it was more then likely not utter fucking crap so I gave it a shot.
Plot
'A massive earthquake ravaged Japan's mainland and destroyed most of Tokyo, sinking three-quarters of the city into the ocean. Ten years later, the story shifts to Ganta Igarashi, a seemingly ordinary student attending Nagano Prefecture's middle school. As an escapee, a survivor of the great earthquake, Ganta has no memories of the tragedy and has lived a normal life. This all changes when a strange person covered in blood and crimson armor floats through his classroom windows. Grinning madly, the Red Man massacres Ganta's entire class but instead of killing him, embeds a red crystal shard in Ganta's chest. Within days of the massacre, Ganta is declared the sole suspect. Following a quick unfair trial, Ganta is sentenced to death and is incarcerated in Deadman Wonderland, a massive theme park like prison'
So yeah our main guy Ganta is falsely accused of killing all his class and framed by the massive cock that was meant to be his lawyer but was the warden of 'Deadman Wounderland' he was playing some shitty tricks to get everyone like that in the prison.
So he now has magic powers because n good anime doesn't have powers or huge fight scenes, am I right? Now he's in prison and bumps into a thief who steals from him but they some how become best buddies tho thief guy is working for the warden.
The for some reason no one bats an eye when this crazy childish pretty much naked albino woman is in an all men's section of the prison.. if this was a real all men's prison she'd have gotten raped the moment she stepped in.
She is so fucking annoying! I guess every anime needs an annoying female in it or it'll loose half the fanbase.. or something.. either way 'Shiro' which means 'white' the annoying childish freaky albino chick is Ganta's CHILDHOOD FRIEND clichecliche.
Every prisoner has a collar on and it's very Battle Royal in the fact that death row inmates must earn 'candy' which is an antidote for a poison in the collar, if they don't then they die.. Also prisoners can earn money and buy stuff. This idea if pretty original but also.. if their on death row just kill them?
The creepy guy who runs the show also has some odd pedoy vibe as his room is always full of toys.. he creeps me out. So anyway he's watching Ganta like a hawk.
Soon we have a fun game called the DOG RACES where prisoners can enter for GRAND PRIZES! but because our power owning 14 year old is in it there is a deadly side and basically everyone dies.
So there are games like that.. in this Deadman Wounderland and people flock to watch it and it's oh such a great event. Also the thing that killed his friends and his whole class is something he called the RED MAN and has realised that the RED MAN is the reason why he has his powers and that he is somewhere in this prison.
So the story goes Ganta has powers and he gets moved to a secret cell block G where other blood users are kept and also told to fight against each other, the losers play the penalty game and loose limbs or parts... nothing like seeing someone getting their eyeball ice cream scooped out.
And every 'Deadman' has a birds code name.
Now I won't tell you ALL about the plot as I wanna leave you some fun! but the first nine eps are great, it's a good story, very deep if not a little.. wtf with great battle scenes. Our main char cries.. alot but he IS 14 and in a prison with some very scary people so can you blame him?
Ganta's cool blood powers.
The fights like I said are epic and in this prison you see some very scary mother fuckers, nut jobs and general messed up things.
I think the show is great until this bellend shows up
Then the show goes all mental silly UBER ANIME on us and the plot just gets stupid to me.
But alot of gore and death and well styled, what I like in an anime.
